Windemere Public License
After a thoughtful suggestion from Redink1, I wrote my own license; I was fed up with looking for licenses. Here it is in it's entirety:
Windemere Public License v. 1.0
1. Definitions
"License" - This Windemere Public License, version 1.0.
"Original Work" - The original work of authorship.
"Windemere" - The Original Work originally distributed by Andrew Reading, Francis Woodhouse, and Jonathon Manning.
"Windemere Team" - The entities; Andrew Reading, Francis Woodhouse, and Jonathon Manning; who originally distributed the Original Work.
"Licensor" - The Windemere Team.
"Licensee" - You, the end-user.
"DMOD" - Any engine modifications released to take advantage of the engine's capabilities, either by the Windemere Team or by the public.
2. Applications
This License covers the Original Work created by Licensor, copyright (c) 2003, 2004 by Andrew Reading, Francis Woodhouse, and Jonathon Manning. All rights reserved except as specified below.
3. No Warranty
WINDEMERE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, ASSURANCE THAT THE ORIGINAL WORK IS FREE OF DEFECTS, FIT FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NON-INFRINGING. BY ACCEPTING THIS LICENSE, YOU, THE END-USER, AGREE THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OF THE ORIGINAL WORK IS YOURS.
4. Limitation of Liability
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES NOR LEGAL THEORY, WHETHER TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), CONTRACT, OR OTHERWISE, SHALL LICENSOR BE LIABLE TO ANY PERSON FOR ANY INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY CHARACTER INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF GOODWILL, WORK STOPPAGE, AND COMPUTER FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION. ISSUES WITH DMODS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, LICENSING ISSUES AND OBJECTIONAL MATERIAL, WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DMOD PUBLISHER.
5. The Licensor Grant
5.1. The license Licensor hereby grants Licensee a world-wide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to do the following:
a) to reproduce, modify, debug, and disassemble or otherwise reverse-engineer the Original Work in copies; b) to prepare derivative works (hereafter referred to as "Derivative Works") based upon the Original Work; c) to distribute copies of the Original Work and Derivative Works to the public, with the proviso that the distributions of the Original Work and Derivatave Works that Licensee distributes be licensed under this License; and d) to perform and display the Original Work publicly.
5.2. Termination Rights of Licensee as described under 5.1a, 5.1b, 5.1c, and 5.1d above are subject to termination if the following conditions are not met:
5.2.1. Attribution a) Redistributions and/or Derivative Works in source form must retain the above copyright notices, this list of conditions, this license (in an easily-accessible location), and the disclaimers found under sections 3 and 4 above; b) Redistributions and/or Derivative Works in binary form must reproduce the above copyright notices, this list of conditions, and the disclaimers found in sections 3 and 4 above in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution.
5.2.2. Derivatives c) Altered source or binary versions, whether derived directly or indirectly, must be plainly marked as such with a prominent statement stating the Derivatave Works are based, either in part or in full, of the work of the Windemere Team. Names of "Windemere Engine" and "Windemere Project" are recommended, but not required; d) Licensee shall also include a detailed file, to either source or binary versions, documenting any and all changes made to the modified version along with the date of such change.
5.2.3. Endorsement e) Neither the name of the Windemere Team nor the names of its contributors may be used to endorse or promote products derived from this software without specific prior written permission.
6. Availability of Source Code
Any Derivative Works must be made available in source code form under the terms of this License either on the same media as an Executable version or via a widely-used electronic distribution mechanism to anyone whom Licensee made the executable version available to. If made available via a widely-used electronic distribution mechanism, the source code must remain available for at least four (4) months after the date it intially becomes available, or at least two (2) months after a subsequent version release; if data has been compromised in any way, including, but not limited to, accidental password release, unauthorized modifications, or the availability of sensitive information, the version may be removed and replaced with an exact version with the sensitive information removed, within two (2) weeks time.
7. Acceptance
Licensee is not required to accept the terms of this license as he or she has not signed it, however any rights granted by this license will be forfeited by law. Licensee agrees to accept these terms automatically upon the execution or compilation of the Original Work.
8. Versions
Licensor (the Windemere Team) may publish revised and/or new versions of the License from time to time. Each version shall be given a unique version number. Any version of Windemere may use this license version or any future versions of it.
9. License Application
The contents of this file are subject to the Windemere Public License; you may not use this file except in compliance with the License. You may obtain a copy of the License in the "LICENSE" file.

And here's a nice FAQ thing in case you don't want to read all that.
LICENSE BRIEF
-------------
1) Am I allowed to redistribute the source?
Yes! You are allowed to redistribute the source providing you leave all copyright notices intact.
2) What about binary forms? Yes! You are allowed to redistribute any unofficial binary forms as long as none of the copyright notices are removed from the binary version.
3) Am I required to include the source with the binary form?
No. The only restriction to this is that you must make the source available from the same place as the binary. Say you release version A. Version A must be made available for at least four months. Now, you release version B. Version A must only be made available for two months, net, and version B must be made available for at least four months.
4) Am I allowed to modify the source or binary?
In any way you wish. You must, however:
SOURCE FORMS must retain the above copyright notices found in section 10, this list of conditions (this requirement is satisfied if you include the license), this license (in an easily-accessible location), and the disclaimers found under sections 3 and 4.
BINARY FORMS must reproduce the above copyright notices found in section 10, this list of conditions (this requirement is satisfied if you include the license), and the disclaimers found in sections 3 and 4 above in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution.
BOTH FORMS must be plainly marked as such with a prominent statement stating the Derivatave Works are based on the work of the Windemere Team.
BOTH FORMS shall also include a detailed file documenting any and all changes made to the modified version along with the date of those changes.
5) Are there any other restrictions?
Not really. You are not, however, able to misrepresent the Windemere Team (Jonathon Manning, Francis Woodhouse, and Andrew Reading) without prior written permission of all of us.
6) Are there other licenses?
Yes, two others. FMOD uses their own unrestrictive license, and SDL uses the LGPL. You can find these licenses in FMOD_LICENSE and SDL_LICENSE respectively. Note that the Ogg Vorbis license applies only to FMOD and Ogg Vorbis code.
7) What about D-MOD authors?
We strongly discourage the use of the .mp3 format in Windemere. We have do not an mp3 license, and using the mp3 format in any released engine modifications will require that you, as a D-MOD author, have a license from Thompson Multimedia permitting you to use the mp3 format.

Of course, my 'thoughtful suggestion' was a joke. Ah well.
lol. give merlin a break. he finally found a goal in life
omg these things suck.

Hey, we don't sigh at a ladies' question!
I don't know neither, they're probably part of that secret dink organization.

For a software license, which are typically long, hard to read, and obnoxious, that's not bad.

Andrew Reading is merlin, Jon Manning is Desplesda, and i'm not really sure who the other guy is
what happens if I violate the license? you guys come to my place to beat me up?
Basically, if you're just playing it, you can do anything you want. This license only places restrictions on the source code.
EDIT: Wow, that's the first time I've done two posts in a row!

I'm talking about license agreements in general... I mean, writing many pages of rubbish text makes no sense to me.

That "rubbish text" helps defend the developer in the unlikely case that legal action should be pursued.
Well, yeah... but couldn't that be made with like 100 lines less?
Yeah, as soon as you stop whining about everything and/or provide some decent reasoning behind all your fussing.
now what i would do is put a whole bunch of crazy stuff in the middle that no one would even know about, then when you take some guy to court for pirating your software, you can claim your diamonds and jewels and send them away to a lifetime of cattle farming.
I think that's the idea. The longer your license is, the boreder the reader gets, the easier it is to slip little things like that past them.
