Hmm... it is October. It doesn't seem like it should be October yet. Oh well.

Anyway, your insignificant slave also known as redink1 has thought of two new ways to serve D-Mods that don't involve FilePlanet. While FP has always worked good for me, it seems it hasn't always worked good for everyone else.

1) Yahoo! D-Mod Group

I've created a group on Yahoo! (linked above) that will store the 5 most recent D-Mods. You can be notified (if you want) when a D-Mod is released, and download it from the Yahoo! Group. You need some sort of Yahoo! account to register.

Unfortunatly, Yahoo! only provides 20 MB of space, so larger D-Mods will not be on there.

2) Bittorrent Links

Bittorrent is a great little tool that allows you to provide a file without using a ton of bandwidth. Basically, it is a peer-to-peer application that allows people downloading something from you download it from each other too. It is slightly more technical than that, but that's the gist of it.

I'm still not sure if I want to mess around with Bittorrent just yet, and I'll have to do some test releases to see if it is viable. Bittorrent works best when lots of people are downloading the file at the same time, so it will probably only be available for the first week or two of a D-Mod's release.

why don't you just put all dmods on kazaa and everyone downloads and shares them?

Direct Connect is a pretty good file sharing program, too. You can only download from one person at a time, but I have gotten much better bit rates on Direct Connect than Kazaa, once I got 270 kb/s.

Well www.50megs.com, you can get a free web page with 50 megabytes bandwith, maybe that could help for the file storing......

It is surely not permitted by their TOS. I already tried that strategy and got all my accounts down, since total downloads was around 1Gbyte/month :/

My ISP has filters on, so I can't share files at any reasonable speed through Kazaa or any other typical P2P service besides Bittorrent.

What about traffic restrictions on Yahoo? I have an account there (for my site) and have only 15Mb space 3Gb/month per account. Had to get one more there.

I don't believe the Yahoo! Groups are subject to the same restrictions as the Yahoo! webspace.

Bittorrent ROCKS. I've downloaded 60 GB with Torrent last month and it works GREAT.

hey yall i just wanna point somthing out why is it that you guys are the only major d-mod downloading site cuz i know you only ave about 15% of d-mods out there and if this is the case do i find them

Gwimbo, Dink Network is the only major DMOD site around, so far as I'm aware. There are a few DMODs I know aren't here, but that's because the author of those mods retracted them. I can't think of a single DMOD that can be downloaded from another site but not from Dink Network.

Look at the links. Every site is dead except for the Dink Smallwood Solutions.

Hmm... I forgot about Yahoo! Briefcase. There really isn't much difference between Briefcase and Groups files-wise, except you get 10 extra MB with Briefcase.

And right now I have the Yahoo! Group so you have the option of getting an e-mail whenever a new file is added. And that's a nice feature which Briefcase doesn't support.
