Why?

It's a theocracy

Why cant it be more like France,Germany,Iceland,Switzerland,Austria,Finland,Poland, ect.

Christianity over there is like Islam in Saudi Arabia and Judaism in Isreal.

I have a theory when your an Island country your more likely to stagnate(I will happen to Australia eventually)
I mean the royal family over there is a slightly less extreme version of the Ayatollah I mean just look the Boxer rebellion in China The Chinese people were fed up with Christianity plauging their country the last thing they need is Homophopia, sexism and pedophilla

What Napoleon should of done is focus on inding Britain then salt the country then leave forever removing the European aristocracy which was thew French Revolution was about Britain supported the corrupt and aristocratic House of Bourbon

In addition to the soldiery, the British squadron and their boats took on board thousands of French Royalist refugees, who had flocked to the waterfront when it became clear that the city would fall to the Republicans. Robust, the last to leave, carried more than 3,000 civilians from the harbour and another 4,000 were recorded on board Princess Royal out in the roads. In total the British fleet rescued 14,877 Toulonnais from the city; witnesses on board the retreating ships reported scenes of panic on the waterfront as stampeding civilians were crushed or drowned in their haste to escape the advancing Republican soldiers, who fired indiscriminately into the fleeing populace

I don't know if it is particularly religious, of all the people I hang out with, I'd say only two or three of them are actually believers. It's always seemed to me like America was one of the more religious places.

Not that it's a bad thing of course, it just depends how everyone chooses to interpret it all.

Children aren't normally in charge of their lives; their parents decide for them. Don't you think the kids would complain when going to a different school?

But the UK is not officially Christian either; it's just that the royal family is. Neither country has a state religion.

However, I think that in the US, more laws are made "because Jesus" than in the UK. For example, this one. My guess is that it will be declared unconstitutional, but they sure are trying. I don't hear that kind of news from the UK. But as I said, I'm not really looking for it either.

I'll throw my hat in the ring again and say that catholic schools shouldn't even exist.

I mean, it's good to hear that people stop believing when they go to those hellholes, but it's scary to know there are schools that are exclusively teaching religion. It's bad enough that schools in this country teach you to obey and never question, but mix that with obey and never question god and you have a recipe for absolute disaster. It also really hinders progress in things that truly matter and will actually benefit humanity, such as about 80 thousand things. Even taking a shit in a dumpster.

EDIT:
Yes I have experience those things when I was 9 at public school we were taught scripture and they attempted to scare us about hell and Satan and whatnot I was scared for little while it traumatised me when I was young.
And it disgusts me when I bring this kind of stuff up in debates and someone says something like "Oh, well, not all christians are like that". But that doesn't remove the fact that the core of that religion is literally 'If you do not believe in god and obey him, you will go to a realm full of fire and misery and suffer for all eternity'. Like, really? That is terrorism right there. And that crap is taught to children of all ages. You've got 3 year old and shit in sunday schools being told this. Are you DUCKING kidding me?

Not just public schools, too. They try to bring their scripture and fear into everything. And it works. Until the fifties or so, I believe, we didn't have God in our Pledge of Allegience. Now we do and it's really not doing us any good trying to stay the hell away from it.

Especially when the 'school' I went to prior to my ascension into the plane of supreme evil, would do this shitty pledge at the beginning of every summer school day. And you know what? We had to. This pledge included god. Talk about forcing religion on people. I'm quite sure you were punished if you didn't do it.

I'm tired of hearing teachers at my school always say:"Don't question it, just believe it" And then starts reading a story from the bible to enlighten us with God's wisdom.
My brother is an atheist and this time, with a purpose, it's because he doesn't believe the stuff in the bible. I mean, I see 13 yr old kids on the internet who are atheists just to look cool. I'm serious.

Religion is a serious thing, and when I say that I mean that at least 50% of the wars and 70% of the terrorrist attacks in this world, ESPECIALLY the incident with Charlie Hebdo would NOT HAVE HAPPENED if religion didn't exist.

Yeah, and they should unless they're actually doing a character and not just pretending to be someone else.

Good example of a mixture of both is Mariotehplumber. Was a character the whole time but those videos were goddamn hilarious. I thought he was really like that but he came out and said that it was a character and that he's sorry about what he did. No problems there. Sure, he pretended to be someone else but he made some funny ass entertainment and even apologized.

Hell, I once pretended to be someone else to avoid being labelled as a... *cough* specific sort of fetishist. But anyways, enough about that. Don't even ask me what it is, I won't answer.

But what's the issue in that? What I'm really trying to say is, the kinds of people who pretend to be someone else just because "Well, it's the internet. Duuuurrrr nobody on the internet is who they say they are. Whatever. Haha. Stupid autistics" or whatever are just dinks.

I guarantee that if you saw me in person I would do these same kinds of overly long rants. Also notice how I said "in person" and not "real life" because that term is stupid and there's nothing about this that isn't "real life" unless I'm the kind of dirtduck that pretends to be someone else just because internet, whatever, blah blah blah.

Also, all my alternates were pretty much how I normally act as well, so. Not Voj though, but that was like a million years ago. So was Mooglefoogle. I was a raging dickhole AND a supreme idiot back then.

Another Branch of Christianity
March 31st 2015, 09:27 AM
spike.gif
Jehovah's Witnesses are a sect of Christianity that keep very close to their own - they're not allowed to have friends outside of witnesses, and the religion generally controls every aspect of its members' lives. They meet many times a week, and have duties each member has to attend to or they'll be marked as inactive witnesses, which I guess would be very shameful in their own social circle. One of those duties is going door-to-door to sell Jehovah ('Jehovah' is a mangled derivative from YHWH, god's name as it appears in the bible. No one really knows how it was pronounced back in the day, but it probably wasn't 'Jehovah').

They've got lots of rules (check 22. and onwards), and they exert social pressure on their members to a disgusting degree. If you ever quit Jehovah's Witnesses or get expelled, other members are required to shun you, which means not having anything to do with you or even greeting you on the street. When it works, you lose all your family and friends overnight. Despite this, Jehovah's Witnesses still have one of the lowest retention rates among all religious organizations.

They're pretty gross.

Christianity came to Australia with the first British settlers on the First Fleet.[11] Of the convicts and settlers most were Roman Catholics (largely Irish convicts) and Anglicans. There were at least 15 Jews in the First Fleet, 14 convicts and one "free" child.[12] Other groups were also represented, for example among the Tolpuddle Martyrs, were a number of Methodists.[citation needed] The First Fleet brought tensions to Australia fuelled by historical grievances between Roman Catholics and other Christians, tensions that would continue into the 20th century.[13]

The first chaplain, Richard Johnson, a Church of England cleric, was charged by Governor Arthur Phillip with improving "public morality" in the colony, but he was also heavily involved in health and education.[14] Christian leaders have remained prominent in health and education in Australia ever since, with over a fifth of students attending church schools at the beginning of the 21st century and a number of the nation's hospitals, care facilities and charities having been founded by Christian organisations.[15]

Though free settlers began to arrive in the late 18th century, it was the gold rush of the 1850s that led to radically increased immigration. The new settlers brought with them their religious traditions, such as Irish Catholicism, Scottish Presbyterianism, and English Anglicanism, among others. Australian Aborigines suffered a tragic decline during this period, as they were dispossessed of their lands and diseases spread among their population. Christian churches organised missions during this period, formally intended to "civilise" Aboriginal communities and spread Christianity. The overall consequences of this activity are still disputed, but it contributed to the decline of indigenous languages and beliefs.

In Western Australia the Anglican clergy saw themselves as pioneering a new society. Besides the usual religious roles of leading church building and public worship they took a major part in charity, education and public debate. They attempted to refashion it in their own ecclesiastical image based on English models.[16]

The Church of England was disestablished in the colony of New South Wales by the Church Act of 1836. Drafted by the reformist attorney-general John Plunkett, the act established legal equality for Anglicans, Catholics and Presbyterians and was later extended to Methodists

Charlemagne? That's quite a while ago, really. The reason France isn't that religious is probably more due to the catholic church being linked with the ancien régime.

Why do you care, that's my question

-Because im sick tired of Religious schools being on every corner
-Im sick and tired of Jehovah witness coming to my door(One came by in 2011)
-Im sick and tired of Religious political parties (Australian Christian lobby)
-John Howard declaring Australia a "Christian nation" THAT MADE ME ANGRY!
-im tired of G#y bushings(Seriously WHY?)

Well why is it?

David Cameron Britain is a Christian country

I have an idea: you can find a group of people who agree with you, and go door to door to convince others!

If it can't work for Jehovah's witnesses, it won't work the other way around. In fact, it'll be even worse trying to convince religious people.

I was only joking, of course.

it'll be even worse trying to convince religious people.

Why? Because they don't listen to reason? Do you mean that you're open to their arguments, but they aren't open to yours?

Do you honestly think a Jehovah's Witness...someone who believes in a version of the bible involving extraterrestrials from some planet or whatever being Jesus and I think maybe Adam and Eve...is going to be open to arguments against their own crap?

And ETs are actually believable too! Not their Jesus versions, but actual ones. They obviously exist. Why would they not? Toga gods on another planet? Why?

They want humanity to progress and believe that the way to do that is with the help of God. Many of them (but certainly not all) say that atheists like you and me are sinners and they refuse to listen to anything we say.

But you are saying they are idiots, and you refuse to listen to anything they say. That is not very different from their way of handling disagreements.

No, no. I'm saying that religious people who want god to handle everything and then all they do is pray and pray are holding us back.

They become even worse when they decide that vaccines are the devil and then diseases we once had defeated crawl back.

I agree with that, but you wrote:

In fact, it'll be even worse trying to convince religious people.

That suggests that all religious people are stubborn and all non-religious people are open to reason. I don't believe that is the case. I know very reasonable religious people and I have no reason to urge them to stop believing in a God, even if I don't.

On the other hand, I also know some extremely stubborn atheists. By no means do I intend to suggest that atheists are more stubborn than religious people on average. I'm just saying that religiousness isn't a very good way to guess if people can be convinced.

Then I suck at typing. But I was saying that trying to convince religious people that their beliefs are bullshit is worse than the other way around - that being Jehovah's witnesses trying to convince random people that Planet Toga and other shit are real things.

Although now that I think about that more, Jehovah's Witnesses have some of the more ridiculous ideas. So maybe it's about even.

...but also, I think I got Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses mixed up. Mormons are the ones with Planet Toga, aren't they? Or are they both the same? I just remember something about Mormon Jesus and god sending meteors to kill people.

To be fair, you live in the US. Religious people over here (I'm temporarily in the US as well) are more crazy on average than the ones I'm used to. Mormons believe Jesus was from Missouri. Many Americans believe God created the Earth in seven days and Man and Dinosaurs lived together. They also believe the planet is 6000 years old, I think. I think they justify fossils which are older than that by claiming that God put them there to test their faith. So why do they believe there actually were dinosaurs? We don't have anything other than fossils, and they say those are just a trick...

Oh well, I'm happy that I'm just a spectator and my own country, while not perfect, is good enough for me that I don't feel I really need to spend my life fixing it. I would urge everyone in the US to do that. If you want to, you should probably start here.

No, Christianity in Rome is like Islam in Saudi Arabia and Judaism in Israel. In the 'centre of' manner of speaking.

I posted this only to change the subject line tbh.

Why cant it be more like France,Germany,Iceland,Switzerland,Austria,Finland,Poland, ect.

Interestingly, if you look at the 'Do you believe in Heaven?' survey in the (I think) October 2009 issue of Reader's Digest, the answers are 64% for the UK, 58% for Germany, 50% for France. If we include other European nations in the 'etc.' then Spain had 63% and Italy had 83%. So it pretty much is like France, Germany, Iceland, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, Poland, etc. and that's not even counting the other religions that exist but don't have the concept of heaven.

Invalidity.
