How do you stay cold?

How do you stay cold or at least not melting when summer comes? I know it's not summer yet, but it's already getting warmer here and it will be disgustingly dry and hot in a few months.

Check it out.

I'd say it's pretty accurate. In fact, here's a fun fact for you - it got so ducked up one summer that practically the entire state was burning. There were over 1000 of those duckers all over the place. The only way to escape the smoke was to drive up to Oregon.

I have no room to place an air conditioner thingy. We've got some of those, too as this place has no normal ass air conditioning. Not a single vent.

So what are your methods? Do you have a box of ice you lay in? Perhaps you're lucky enough to live on the east coast where the temperature is perfect. Maybe you're not in this evil empire of a country and somewhere up north where it's probably a nice cold temperature all the time?

Well, time to go destroy another glass of cold shit or something. I guess the upside to all this is more cold drinks. Or poking fun at how hot it gets even though it is absolutely not comfortable.

Well, if you mean, in your own house, then stay undressed with only the underwear on. And I'm not joking. As long as there arent any friends of yours around or other people which you don't want to see you undressed, then I don't see what's the problem

OR

Keep a bottle with cold water with you at all times

I agree with Bluedy about the clothes. But cold water will only make you feel hotter rather than cool you off. Drink room temperature water frequently. That would be much better.
It's already blazing hot where I am. I don't do much. I cut my hair short, drink refreshments(like crushed cardamom & sugar water) and keep my activity low. The more active you are the more engery you burn(as heat) and the hotter you get.
A good stressful activity could keep you sweating for a few hours...

The former doesn't work too well and the latter would end up with a warm bottle of water or an empty one, and either way would probably make the former even less of a solution since taking a piss would require clothes which takes like 43 years to do.

EDIT: The more active you are the more engery you burn(as heat) and the hotter you get. But there's still so much more shit to clean and move around.

I sympathize, it goes up to nearly 50 degrees Celsius in the summer. I can't stay in my room then because I'm literally pouring sweat. No figurative expression there. I had to spend ten minutes in it out of necessity with the window closed once (the electricity wasn't working so no fan) and I started shaking because I became so dehydrated.

Cold drinks, keep your windows open, keep your curtains closed, take a shower every day. Still sucks.

Sometimes an invisible monster would throw me around the room in it. But I don't know if that counts as sleep paralysis. It's very life-like and I get the same sensation of not breathing and paralysis...

That shiz is weird, fo shizzle.

But really, it's ducked up how you can become conscious but still limp from rem and it seems like you're moving but then you finally gain full consciousness and can move around and you realize you didn't actually move at all. Some weird bologna shit happens with sleep. It's awesome.

Like once, I was like -2 or something, and I had this dream post-Night of the Living Dead viewing with darkness, some wooden watch tower type things, ladders, red carpets, and zombies or some shit. I would awaken I guess and then be pushed or pulled back down into the dream.

Or one time, I swear to duck I was floating around and hitting the ceiling or something.

Speaking of all this, anyone ever experience weird intense chills that aren't cold? Anyone else had recurring bathroom maze dreams? They're not really mazes, but there's lots of stalls all over the place.

About bathrooms maze dreams? I think these occur to people who are afraid of or have something with public bathrooms. The only thing I think about this is that they are disgusting. I haven't had recurring bathroom dreams, but I have had recurring volcano nightmares when I was young, which often included my dad sacrificing some kind of meat into the volcano to quell it's hunger. Which is odd because I've never lived anywhere near a volcano.

I'm not sure if it's the same kind of "chills" you get Skurn, but once in a great while (usually during Winter) I wake up in the middle of the night shaking madly feeling like I'm frozen stiff (even though heat is on) and like I need to throw up. It mostly goes away after about 15-30 minutes but it's still terrifying when it happens. I've also had panic attacks on at least 2-3 occasions where I start shaking madly and feeling like I'm going to have a heart attack for basically no reason at all.

I've been checked and supposedly there's nothing wrong with me, and neither of those things have happened for over a year now. So I'll probably live.

As for staying cold, I've never had that problem; I almost always feel cold, so the Summer ends up being a lot easier on me than Winter.

I should probably use one of those. All I've got on right now is a square fan you can place in windows and shit, but that would require me to leave the window open and I dunno if I'll be doing that. It's on a box right now pointing diagonally from the wall.

I couldn't put anything in the window, actually, since douchebags around here feel the need to smoke or use their fireplaces instead of a simple blanket or something and end up giving me smoke that comes right in.

Daniel, there are clowns.
They use their fireplaces when it's warm outside? That's perverse.

I also echo others statements. A fan is super useful. Big powerful box ones are great in high-temperature/low-humidity areas if you're stationary (like working at a computer). If you're moving around a lot or need to keep a whole room cool, the swivel kind may work better. You'll get the most use out of fans by positioning them close to cool areas and pointing them at warm areas (or yourself).

I don't think they use their fireplaces during summer, but fireplaces in general just suck ass. You can warm up much easier than burning some wood and getting fire starters or whatever whilst also blowing smoke into the air to prevent good air from being able to enter through windows.

And I've seen someone around here put a box fan in their window. I wonder how they feel about the fireplace duckers and cigarette addicts.

As for the homemade air conditioner. I should try that maybe. There's solar panels on the roof, but of course, they are broken.

Duck heat. I'd prefer it to be cold.

When it's hot/warm, whatever, nothing can stop it. You try to sleep or something and the air is stagnant and dry (even with a fan unless it's blowing on you); leaving a window open doesn't do much, air conditioning and ice cost money which they sure as hell should not. I bet the assholes in charge of electric companies and the like take advantage of the higher level of heat to squeeze more money out of people in this greedy ass country.

When it's cold, all you need to do is cover up in some way. That's it. You have total control over how you feel temperature-wise. But then, people feel the need to use heating appliances of some sort or start a fire which is absolutely pointless. For duck's sake, throw a blanket on. Put a robe on or something. Don't start a fire or turn on the heat because there are obviously people who don't need that shit, and I'm the kind of duck that likes to keep the window open if it's cold or something because the cold is awesome. Hell, I have it open regardless since the cold only comes around for about 3 minutes, but still. The fires are such shit - it's finally cold. People can leave their windows open and get cold air, or do nothing about it and have a good temperature. So when there's fire, people can't do that anymore. Smoke enters through every little crack it can and it's disgusting. Speaking of smoke, it's irrelevant to this topic, but jesus ducking christ, do you need to do that? I get if you're addicted and you're an absolute retard for getting into in the first place, but duck you. DUCK. YOU. One time this whole room was just blanketted in some asshole's cigarette smoke. I could not stay in here. There's a thing called second hand smoke, you ducks. And it's not just cigarettes, too. Let's get more relevant - it's fireplaces too. As long as it's ducking smoke. I don't want that shit. I want clean air (or as clean as you pieces of tar filled filth or woodburning filth will allow), not smoke. Someone should hunt down all the douchecountry music sensations smoking those abominations and shove them straight up their ass while they're still lit and dump gasoline in there too. The monsters that make those things should suffer the same, but add in chambers of nicotine smoke to show them what the hell they're doing to this goddamn world.

Anyways, the ice thing won't work. I've got enough shit in here as it is and there's no where to put ice. Annnnd it'd melt in 4 seconds.

No idea why I would be begging for heat. I definitely wouldn't. I once felt so shitty that I walked into the 'school' kitchen and sat on the freezer floor. Although, I'd probably sit in freezers no matter what. It's nice.

Your smoker problem sounds annoyingly familiar. It's not even just smoke coming from the window for me, I think my upstairs neighbor smokes inside their apartment and the smoke seeps through the floor to where I live. It's actually the reason I got a fan, rather than to help against the heat in the summer (and my place does get absurdly hot) - to get the ducking smell of smoke out. I put the fan on the highest setting, open my window, and burn a goddamn incense stick in front of the fan. Thankfully, this doesn't happen too often, or I'd become the person who goes from door to door yelling at their neighbors, and poking a rake against the ceiling everytime you dosomething in your own apartment.

Ironically, I actually sometimes smoke myself, so I can see the appeal. It's incredibly enjoyable and relaxing, I just don't want to smell like smoke. It's like the smell of gasoline, it's great if you catch a whiff at the gas station, but you wouldn't want to breathe that stench for extended periods of time.
March 30th 2015, 12:11 PM
goblins.gif
I don't hate people who smoke, but by golly I hate smoke. You'd think having a full family of smokers would make me get used to it and join the party, but I'm so sensitive to it that it just drove me insane sometimes. Luckily I don't have to deal with it anymore where I live now, but most of my life was spent living with smokers, often including trying to sleep while there's a lit cigarette in the other room. The air conditioning in the house blew everything into my room, of course...

I'm not a fan of alcohol either, but compared to smoking it's nothing. And some cultures have proven that drinking alcohol can be a healthy thing (like a small cup of wine during breakfast, and no more). But here where I live most people who drink like to get drunk, so I've come to kind of hate that too. Cigarettes on the other hand can never be healthy, despite what paid off doctors said 40 years ago.

Or at least, that part of it. We could freeze up bags and bags of ice and give it out for free when people need it. But oh, wait. We do bag it up. We got a bag for 25 cents. What's even the point of that? It should be free.
