I have a question for you folks. I have installed "the ultimate cheat" several times, but I can't get it to work?
What I do is: c:\program files\dink smallwood\dink\story\key 67.c Is this correct? I looked, and it IS in the story folder, but it just won't work!? If you might have a solution, then please post it here, or email me at: ecnal1955@hotmail.com Thanx, lance

That's not correct, there's no space between key and 67.

Pressing that key when playing any Dmod should pop up the ultimate cheat.

Should be key-67.c

And it's key "C"

I just downloaded "the ultimate cheat", but when I went to unzip it, I got individul files? I then clicked on" key-67.c", but a message came up saying it wasn't formatted correctly? What happened to the OLD zip file-- I understood that!
So what do I have to do to make the new system work? Please be specific!
Thanx, Lance.

What the hell is there to not understand? Unzip it, and move all the .c files to Dink Smallwood\Dink\Story...

That's not what I did. I right clicked on it, and got a list of places to send it; and when I did, it was in the old format.
But, the cheat still won't work? I tried it your way, and, the way I was doing it?! I think I 'm still missing something? Got any ideas?

I DID that, but---nothing happened!
Update: It does work (somewhat), but I have to press the M key? Go figure!
Anyway, I'm not complaining! Thanx for your help, and try to lighten up a bit! LOL. Lance!

If you right-click a zip, you get an option to unzip it. Don't send it anywhere, that'd only send the zip to that place, still leaving you with the problem.

I have to disagree, because it's working (somewhat, not all the time), but I have to press M to get it up? Go figure!?

I download this just to finish Pilgrim.

I try those cheat code in a new game of Dink V.1.8 and it's working.

I try those cheat code where I was in Pelgrim, it doesn't.

I try to start over a brand new game in Pelgrim and it doesn't either...

Does the creator of Pelgrim could have block those cheat code? If yes, I would never be able to finish his game and I already play it for more than 17 hours. It's very sad.

Do you know how to make it works in Pelgrim?

C:\Program Files\Dink Smallwood\hh\ is the place that it would be installed in if you installed Dink in C:\Program Files\Dink Smallwood. It depends on where you installed Dink.

If you use an operating system later then windows XP I believe the DMODs are sometimes stored in a different place. Maybe someone with experience on those systems could help out.

In that case you want to look for the Vista Problems thread for an explanation. I'll search myself and edit this post with the link, it explains what's wrong with Vista/7.

MsDink beat me to it
I believe there was a specific thread that Iplaydink posted explaining the problem in the first post and giving a suitable solution as well, this seems to be a problem which is quite common nowadays. When I find the thread I'll give it a bump and someone can sticky it lol.
Edit: Unless someone beats me to bumping it as well

And for those of us on Linux, it's ~/usr/share/dink/dink/Story (yes, the caps is required). However, SAVING it there's being a pain right now, since that's a root folder and requires root access to get to.

Skip the ~; that folder is, as you say, in the root fs, not in /home.

And you shouldn't save anything there. /usr is for system packages; admin changes should go to /usr/local (but freedink doesn't look there; perhaps it should), user changes to the home dir. And freedink does look there. You put dmods in ~/dmods/name; if you put your files there (under story/, with whatever caps it is written by the dmod), it works for that dmod. If you want the original game with cheats, the easiest (and proper) way to achieve this is to copy /usr/share/games/dink/dink (or without /games, depending on your system) to ~/dmods/dink and make changes to that copy.

Oops. Appearantly Freedink is even better than I thought. Thanks for the correction.

I based my statement on the DFarc menu, which allows installing in "standard" or "alternate" location, so I thought these were probably the only places where Freedink would look.

Does this mean that installing the cheat scripts in /usr/local/share/games/dink/dink/story, they will be active by default in every DMod?

No, because FreeDink looks at various place to determine the *reference data directory*. Then it remembers it until you quit the game

Otherwise, the engine would have to look at all possible locations each and every time it needs to open a DinkC script.

Life? What's that? Can I download it?!
DMODs may use the s button for other things. If it's the original Dink game, then I dunno.
