Ok, I don't usually read all the off topic threads here, because I'm here mostly for Dink-related stuff. But since I like you guys, I still wanted to share the news that I just passed the second of three exams for my motor cycle driver's license.
For those who aren't familiar with the Dutch system, the three parts are:
- Theory (so easy, it doesn't really count.
)
- Vehicle control (turning, braking, etc)
- Traffic handling (driving on the road)
Now I only need to do the last one.

Just be thankful your not in Australia, trying to get a license for uh.. anything. Cause the license system here really sucks.

Nice, good luck completing it
I've wanted to learn that for ages.

I've wanted to learn that for ages.
I don't know about motorcycles, but here getting a driver's license for car used to be way too EASY. They just basically put you on the road and checked if you survived or not.

Would they still give you a license if you survived and everyone else didn't?

According to my uncle's tales of when he got his driver's license, yes.
Motorcycles are cool, but sadly I think Finland's too cold for them.
(You can drive for about 4 months a year, the rest of the time you're just freezing your helmet off.)

Robj how is hard to get a driver's license and scratcher arnt you people called Finnish
The swedish word "finne" which translates to "Finnish/Finn" in english, also means pimple.

To get a drivers licence in Western Australia you need to first do a theory test. After you've done that you get given 'Learner' Plates... These allow you to drive a vehicle, but only with someone that has a full licence sitting in the passenger seat. After you've learned to drive this way, you then go in for a practical driving assessment, which is about a 3 month wait after booking it. After you pass the driving test, you still only hold a Learners licence, and still can only drive with someone that has a full licence in the passenger seat - You must hold your Learners Licence for a further 6 months, and complete a log book to provide evidence of a minimum of 25 hours of driving experience in various conditions. You then book in for a hazard perception test, and if you pass this your licence is upgraded to a 'Red Provisional licence', which means you can drive unsupervised but cannot drive between 12am and 5am. After a further six months your licence is upgraded to a 'Green Provisional licence'. After holding this for a further 18 months you are finally given a full licence.
This system is the equivalent of getting t-bagged by the incredible hulk, while trying to learn how to ride a bike and masturbate at the same time.

Honestly, it sounded good until this point. The rest... Well there's overkill, and then there's where you drive over a corpse, reverse over it a few times, and skid your wheels on the corpse for good measure.

What are you gunna do with your thumb after u get a bike shevek?
Well, I've had a license for cars for years and that didn't stop me.
Then again, if I'd actually get my own motor bike, it may change a bit. I don't have my own car, since almost everything I do is within cycling distance. But even with a motor bike, I think I'd still use my thumb; it's too much fun not to.

How do you steer that first one?
The handlebar is under my legs when I sit on it. You can see the left part, including the brake handle, just next to the bottom of the seat.

i allready have my license
got it when i was 16.
yep you can do that where i live. Full car and motorcycle license by 16 and you only have to take a written and practical test, you can also drive without wearing a seatbelt, pirate movies, start a bonfire on almost any beach, and kill people.

Thanks!
Where will you go first?
I plan to go to the USA in April, and buy a motorbike there. Don't know where I'll go with it yet.

Michigan UP.
I know, it's not the best place for motorbikes.

Why not we see each other, I in bellville.
Ye gads, Robj! That is a pretty turdulent system! In Victoria we have to run 120 hours on our L's, 1 year on our reds and 3 years on our greens... all a money-spinner for our worthless government, mind you.

If you're talking about Bellville in Ohio, that seems sort of close (although 1000 km is really far where I am now, it seems to be less so in the US. I always like to meet people, so let's see if we can work something out. I'll post here when I've moved.

I know, I started it over there before I moved to WA... and you know what sucks... I had 3 quarters of my hours done. When I moved to WA they made me start again (took my learners off me completely and made me go for it again), shortened the expiry date on the new one they gave me by 3 years, and then charged me $75 as well. WTF IS THAT.

There's a Bellville in Ohio, I meant Michigan. Also I thought you might live in Michigan, where do you live then, since your a ghost. Also one more question, are you white or black[don't mean to be racist, just the ghost thing got on my mind]
I always find it interesting hearing about the differences between things here in the US and other parts of the world. Where I live licenses (regular ones, not motorcycle) are available as learner's permits at 15, intermediate licenses at 16 (drive alone, no more than 1 other non-related person with you), and full licenses at 18. I know my father got his motorcycle license a few months ago. He went to the DMV one day, took a test, came back, and had a motorcycle license. He's had a motorcycle license in the past though, so I'm not sure if that affected anything.
Here in NZ we do a theory test and you can only get two questions max wrong or you fail(and some are instant fails no matter how many you get)
If you pass this then we are allowed to drive for x amount of time WITH someone in the car.
then we take another test (practical one) and if we dont kill the tester or upset him too much we are allowed to drive but on your own for another year between 7am - 10 pm
then if you want your full, you must take another practical test with driving tester type person,
if you pass you are then allowed to create carnage all on our own legally, day or night!
Wow you all know I am 97 right - "in my day..." we did a written test, u missed a question he rephrased it tikll u got it right, then you both jumped in the steam car and if we made the guy happy we got a full license, wow you youngins of today - bit tougher on you huh
old fogies rule lololz

There's a Bellville in Ohio, I meant Michigan.
Ah, ok. I searched for Bellville, but it only gave me hits for Texas and Ohio. In Michigan there is appearantly a Belleville, just next to Detroit. I suppose you live there?
where do you live then
At the moment I live in the Netherlands. I hope to move to Houghton (it's about as far away from the rest of Michigan as you can get) in April.
are you white or black[don't mean to be racist
Huh? You ask this like "are you a man or a woman?"... So to you this is probably a very normal question, because your skin color determines a large part of your personality, or something? You Americans are weirder than I thought... Also, how can you not mean to be racist when asking such a question? Why do you want to know the answer, other than to differentiate on race? And finally, you do realize that there are more than two skin colors in the world?
just the ghost thing got on my mind
I've been here quite some time, and I even posted pictures of myself. I'm not as ghostly as I look.

In England you have to be 17 and then you can apply for a provisional license.
A provisional allows you to drive anywhere (except motorways) as long as you have a passenger in the front who is over 21 and has held a full license for at least 3 years.
To get a full license you have to take a theory test which comes in to parts - a list of multiple-choice questions and a hazard perception test where you watch a video and try and spot the upcoming hazards. If you pass that you can take your practical test, where you drive around and try not to run people over.
Once you have a full car license this also covers a motorcycle (only up to 125cc until you're 21) but you have to pass a Compulsory Basic Training test.
With a provisional license and a CBT you can also ride a scooter or motorcycle up to 50cc.

I live in the one near detroit, and The ghost thing made me think of the Racist one. Correction: What is the color of your skin, hence my ghost thought.

I'll post here when I've moved.
Actually, I'll post now, just before I move. I will be flying to Chicago, IL on the 24th of April, where I have to wait 8 hours before continuing to Houghton, MI. Anybody wanting to meet up is welcome, just let me know.
To the US?? That's a long move!
It is, but I look forward to the research there. The weather, not so much.

I have a friend in lake forest, which is pretty close to chicago.
I'm quite a few hours east of there, so meeting up would be rather hard.
Have fun.
