What you dislike most about DMODS...

I don't like it when it has riddles or annoying large mazes.. I also dislike DMODS with multiple storylines which have confusing choices...
Prolonged periods of running around, although that's due to me not having enough time.
I'm quite fond of riddles and puzzles in D-Mods- as long they are executed in a fun and interesting way.
That also goes for multiple storylines and different choices etc etc.

Walking into a castle or cave with dim lighting, with many fast pillbugs, only to have to backtrack out of it, with fast pillbugs.
Bugs. Sounds obvious, but even if it's mostly harmless things like hardness errors it makes me worry that the d-mod hasn't been tested well, and then every time I get to a place where I'm not sure how to proceed I worry that it's because something broke.
When it's made just to tick you off. Examples being you start in an area that is filled with monsters much more stronger than you and you have no hope for survival, much less a decent weapon. The game being extremely confusing or convoluted, stuff like that. However, it would be subverted if that beginning was supposed to be you had to die first before you could continue the game (Such as, you die, and then a cutscene happens that takes you to a different place.)
Bugs. Not in the same sense as Paul, as I have a Quest Log file on here for that (which no-one I've seen has used so far). So more than bugs, getting stuck is another thing I dislike.
I may actually need to patch that at some point.

Ridiculous depth errors. Ok, having slight overlap with doors is one thing, but when the depth is off on a tree, or a table, it really grinds my gears.
Funny, I was actually thinking about how it would be nice if d-mods had a quest log. I'll have to check that out some time.
HH2 has a quest log... sorta. Psst, go play it.

Playing a DMOD while being afraid that you might break something when you try something strange really removes the fun out of a DMOD. Testing thoroughly really is the one way to go...

Testing shows the presence, not the absence of bugs
-- Edsger Dijkstra
The proper solution, according to him, is to prove code correctness. Now unless mathematics is your hobby, I would not recommend this. But he is right: this is the only way to make sure that there are no bugs in a program.

Besides posting all of your code for everyone to scrutinize and calling that "beta'ing"?
Bugs also rub me the wrong way if only because they take you out of the immersion that a game is supposed to provide
I'm also a strong believer of combat balance that only expects you to kill every enemy once (but not less...).

Pillbugs, running around doing nothing, rehash stories, slow combat, pillbugs, boncas, dragons, FFVI Terra's theme, the engine, the absurd amount of XP it takes to level up...
I dislike Skorn, "The Silly Slave of the DN".
the engine
I'm sorry but find me another one you can make adventures in as easily as this one? If you'd try other engines you wouldn't have this on your dislike list

I haven't used it myself, but my friend had an easy time with Heroes of Might and Magic. I don't think it's as flexible as Dink though. Anyway, even if Dink is the easiest one available doesn't mean there couldn't be a better engine someday. And what if the engine were basically the same but with the bugs fixed? Also the discussion really depends on what Absolution doesn't like about the engine. There are different things you could like or not like about it.

Well yes, but know that I have searched for a perfect, simple engine for basically all my life. Trust me when I say there are only a handful of viable ones out there that are not bound to a gameplay system like Heroes of Might and Magic. This is the reason I came back here
But yes, of course, there are reasons to dislike the engine when comparing it to others. Resolution, sound, graphics, etc... are all old, but if you compare that aspect to another engine, then it's only fair to keep moddability in the equation as well, no?

Have you tried Novashell? I wonder how it compares to Dink.
Interesting! I wasn't aware of that project. I see he's even got Dink and some ducks in one of the example screenshots. It sounds like it's probably a similar engine to Dink HD, but without some of the Dink-specific limitations like screen size.
