The game's running fine when I play it using wine, but there's this really annoying bug occurs that occurs while I'm playing:

Whenever a sound is played (duck's quacking, doors opening, Dink hitting something etc.) it starts looping forever until I open the menu and close it. Has anybody experienced anything similar to this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm really looking forward to playing the game once again.

Try running the FreeDink version.

Give us some more details such as distro etc.

Some people seem to have problems with Ubuntu.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04. I've had some problems using the latest version of Ubuntu on my computer. I think it's possible to install the Dink Smallwood package using the standard package installer on the most recent version of Ubuntu, but obviously I haven't gotten around to trying that yet because my computer is making problems.

As for running Dink using wine, there's a minor bug that occurs when I play the game (besides the sound bug), which is that some squares have a black background. The sprites are there, but the background is black.

EDIT: Btw, I get this error message when I try running FreeDink:

Not sure about that error, but are you using the latest version?

It looks like you don't have the freedink-data package installed.

Indeed it does. That's fixed now. FreeDink seems to be running smoothly. Now I can hear the midi's, but there's no sound effects... =\

Most sounds aren't included with FreeDink, unfortunately (check out http://www.freedink.org/doc/sounds/ ). You can download regular Dink Smallwood, and extract the sounds from the dink\sound\ folder to the same folder in FreeDink... And help find replacement sounds, of course.

Copy the "DINK" directory from your Wine installation to the dink directory in /usr/share/dink/ (or wherever it is) to overwrite the freedink data package's folder "dink". This will give you all the sound effects and music and other stuff that Beuc took out.

Should have mentioned that before you installed it actually.

Freakin' brilliant! I'm very pleased to see that you're this patient and helpful towards newcomers to these forums! I'm really looking forward to re-play the game. Haven't played it for ages...

Nvm, all good now. Please excuse my whining.
