Dink wiki
Due the lack of a Dinktionary I started a Dink Wiki, I'll be adding some articles here now and then, feel free to edit them and add new.
I have 8 articles at the moment.

Nice stuff.
Though, the name should probably be something more original like maybe... Smallwood Wiki or Dink SmallWiki perhaps. Just suggestions.

Also, it's nice that you create all those pages so other people only need to start editing them, but maybe you should leave it someone who knows a little more about Dink -history.
Well if I do any mistakes someone can just change them, and as you see if you look through the articles I don't give away too much details and only deal with subjects that I do not need to check up.
Fair enough.
It's still very silly to read "SimonK is an old Dinker and probably mentally ill" though.

Awesome. I'll have a look and contribute a few bits when I get time.
Nice indeed. Maybe you can still use some definitions from the old dinktionary.

I just loled when I saw that.

Maybe you should add a screenshot of Dink Smallwood (the actual game) on the site. You know, if someone who actually doesn't know what Dink is gets lost on the site, at least he then knows what the game looks like.
Awesome. I'll contribute to the wiki now and then.
@Skull: I guess... I could put a screenshot on the main page, and move the drawn image to Dinks article along with a picture of the sprite.
If you want to add a screenshot, make sure it's PNG. Otherwise it wont work (I think).

I think this is a wonderful idea, but for it all to seem uniform, I think there are certain words and such that should be 'agreed' on as a whole.
I mean as in 'D-Mods'.
Some people say 'Dmods'. Others say 'DMODS'. Others yet simply say 'dmods'. But I've always said 'D-Mods'.
We can't have different capitalization of the same word around the same wiki, because (in my opinion) it would look rather strange. So what should we stick to?

Dink-Module is the official way to spell it, so I guess we should stick with D-Mods. That is how it should be spelled, anyway.
Slimes are slimes are slimes.
Not puddles.
Not puddles.
It's actually just Dink Module, without the dash. D-Mod is clearly the most popular spelling, though, so that's the best choice for consistency (it's also mostly used on this site).
And yeah, slimes are indeed slimes, not... *shudder* puddles. They were named that in the Original Dink graphics folder, but no one in their right mind calls them that.

Odd, someone's already signed up as Sparrowhawk. Anyway, I'm Sparrowhawk! instead
I think the registration system is universal, so it just means someone in some wiki somewhere is using that name.
I also had to sign up as scratcherr for the purpose of editing this wiki.
I also had to sign up as scratcherr for the purpose of editing this wiki.
Dunno, I also use Wikipedia and a different wiki also using wikia and need a seperate account for each.
Good point. I'm not sure what the logic (or lack thereof ) is, but there's a huge amount of names that you can't pick that I'm sure no one has had the time to register in this specific wiki.
Skull was also already taken, so I just use TheDisembodiedOne.
We should make all the empty links we have now, like 'Lyna's Story' and 'Cloud Castle 2' in the D-mod article.
Also, great article about Milder, Skull.
It should have more links in it though... And the article about Dink should be longer...
I have to make dinner now, I'll try to write something later.

)I still want to know who here refers to a Slime as a Puddle?
Nobody does anymore. RTSoft named them as Puddles, but Slime is more of an official name nowadays. But yes indeed, if you are looking for the original name, it is Puddle. Someone should make notes about this though, when he continues the Puddle article.
Also, great article about Milder, Skull.
Really? It has a lot of mistakes in it. (Seth used explosion not Greater Harm to kill Milder for example.) Does the game ever mention where Milder lives or grew up?
I'll probably edit it later after I've checked a couple of things. (Unless someone beats me to it of course.)

Where do RTSoft refer to them as Puddles?
RTSoft refers to them as Puddles in the graphic folders doh. I could ask you where do they mention Pillbugs or Stone Giants.

Erwin, oops sorry you're right. Seth used explosion, not Greater Harm (mixed those 2 up). Yes, the game mentions where Milder grew up, I think when you talk to the Edge of the World lady, Dink says that Milder grew up in StoneBrook with Dink.
EDIT: I edited the explosion/harm stuff, but Erwin, you said you found a lot of mistakes in it? You only mentioned one and that one you mentioned really isn't that big of a mistake.

You could indeed. To which I would say that they mention them in the game and in the graphics folder. If I recall correctly, the folder for the slimes is called "Puddles," but the .bmps & scripts themselves refer to them as slimes. Could be wrong on that though.
They're called Slimes in game, aren't they? It's been a while since I played the original.
Either way, they are most definitely called Slimes. Puddles, indeed! Pah!

They don't mention Pillbugs in the original Dink Smallwood game. They might mention Stone Giants, but never Pillbugs.
I like Puddle, but hey, that's just me.
I've made a new article called Slime and removed puddle.

And Iplaydink, PLEASE learn to write D-Mod.
Really? Well, it's been a ridiculous amount of time since I played the original game so I don't know.
It's not really relevant anyway - The point being that Slimes are Slimes are Slimes. Not Puddles... that name just isn't right, somehow.
I keep nearly writing something for the Wiki and then not doing so. Hmm.

Start writing something immediately or I will puddleroll you every day from now on.
Done.
But I can't remember if it's all entirely accurate. I'm sure someone will point it out to me if I've made a mistake.

Funny, my friends called the Slimes "pannenkoeken" (pancakes). I thought that was a weird name to describe them, I always called them Slimes.
Can't you use multiple names for one article? You can on wikipedia...
In that case the D-Mod and dmod and DMOD pages are identical.

Yeh, I call them DMODs.
I edited the explosion/harm stuff, but Erwin, you said you found a lot of mistakes in it? You only mentioned one and that one you mentioned really isn't that big of a mistake.
A lot is probably exaggerated. You made mostly grammatical mistakes and your quote of Milder is wrong, you wrote "Dink, you are much of a knight than I ever was" instead of "..you are more of a knight than I ever was, Dink...". If you quote someone just copy what they said . Also you didn't mention that there were two options from which you could choose. Not that it's that important but it's probably not such a good thing to just mention one of the two, if you're going to mention one of the options at least mention both.

Well, you still could have left the "Milder grew up in StoneBrook with Dink" -stuff there, because that is actually very much explained in the game.
I edited that out... You can see who has edited a page by clicking the "History" button.
When does someone say Milder grew up with Dink in Stonebrook? You could give a quote from the game that verifies this on the article's talk page (to prevent it from being edited back out), and put it back in. I'm currently convinced no such information is given.

Dink said during his conversation with King Daniel: "He grew up in my village - I cannot turn my back on him."

Yeah, by redirecting. Create a new page and just put:
#redirect [[page to go to]]
I've done it for D-Mod (because I couldn't figure out how to just change the Dmod page to D-Mod) and there's no need to for the rest because upper/lowercase doesn't make a difference.

Heh heh, on the 'Dink' page was this:
"Before his herotic deeds he was a pig-farmer. He hates Milder."
Herotic, I'm assuming, was meant to say 'Heroic' and not come across as 'Heretic', correct?

Herotic = heroically erotic, a simple reference to SimonK DMODs.
Skull, you really should have some internal links in your articles
I mostly write them on mornings, and I really don't bother to do that much so... since I know there are other people who can put those links, I'll just let them do it.
Not much new stuff, someone definitely should go and write something there.
I did write a bunch of stuff the other day, and I'll try to write some things tomorrow.
Staff, if your highness would please stickie this. It's a great idea and should not be forgotten into the graveyard of threads. Also IPD, I think the Wiki could use some background image and color themes.
I know people will feel different about this, but I think our places on the stickey list are quite valuable. The place for this thing would be on the partner list, not the stickeys.
Talking of which, the partner section really needs an update...

So now I've made a new logo with transparent background and shadows. I've also changed to another theme. What do you think?

I think at least two (probably three) of the 'Partners' are either dead or will be dead. Pretty much the whole left-hand column (Dink Squad is still up, but I don't think it is being updated?)
I don't think this is very necessary.
Neither is your breathing, but none of us point it out quite like that.
The Dink Wiki is excellent, man. When it started, we were all excited about it and made heaps of pages and stuff, and it's all valuable info. Reading it just gives you a tingly sense of epic Dink-ness.
Edit: I like the new theme, BTW.

Quit flaming me because you don't like my opinions.
New theme = rad. I'll have to pilfer through the wiki articles and see what I can update or add
Bleeurgh. I have to say that theme needs some colour. Grey just doesn't look good on anything.
Half agree with Abs here. The logo is awesome, the color of the text and stuff. It could use a background with some more colors to not make it seem so blank.
EDIT: Also Meta, forget about the partners for as long as you don't see Redink anywhere. Meanwhile, I seriously wish this would go to the stickies. It''s basically the only place to keep this VERY VALUABLE thread and Wiki alive.

I disagree, and so does the shade of the background of my website.
Let's stick with this for now, what the wiki really needs is articles.
No articles will come if nobody knows of the Wiki.
I never knew of the wiki until just now. I think it should be stickied.
I hereby give the staff two options:
1, sticky this thread.
2, sticky this thread to the important threads thread instead of the forum itself.
Personally I think the second option is much more viable, although I don't exactly see the Important Threads thread at the top either...
EDIT: Seriously. I remember when the board was full of stickies, and we cleared most of them from BEING stickied, but I thought we linked them all to one thread which WAS stickied? That seems to have disappeared itself.

Yeah, that one has mysteriously vanished. Not that I'm complaining; Thank god, in fact.
I contacted redink in hopes he would update the partners section. If not, though, I'll sticky this thread eventually. The wiki is a great project, only needs more editors.

I created an article for The Old Guy who teaches Dink the Acid Rain spell. If someone would be nice enough and create the links to it, and improve it any way they see fit (this does not mean ruining it ). Anyway, can someone explain to me how to insert the links?
Click the link thing while editing, enter the page you want it to go to and then the cover. Not that hard is it?
EDIT: Did you know that the Eurasian sparrowhawks are one of the fastest birds? This one's from the UK so it's really fast.

No, I just thought there was a different way to make links to the in-wiki articles.
[[that_cyclopic_skull]]
Someething like that, I never remember the exact format. Just edit an existing article in "source" mode and you can see how it's done.

Read "internal links" on the page sparrow linked to.
Ok, I've made a bunch of new articles, which haven't got that much in them so go ahead and edit!
I also added links in a few articles, including yours, Skull.

What the hell did you do to the article, IPD? What's up with that "General" content?
Something that kind of bothers me about the wiki are the stupid spoiler tags at the start of every article. I think it would be much better to have a generic spoiler warning on the front page, and forgo them on every page (though honestly even that seems a bit overkill... of course the wiki is going to have spoilers on it).
Oh shuddap. With all that typing power, you could have proven yourself useful to the Wiki and write something there.
All I did was moving 'are you high' to the Quotes sections.
Oh, and I think we should listen to scratcher.

Also, we have "Dink" and "Dink Smallwood" as different articles which both pretty much cover the same thing. I think the "Dink" one should be deleted.
And ok, I'll listen to Scratcher... for this once.
And ok, I'll listen to Scratcher... for this once.
Can't you redirect "Dink" to "Dink Smallwood"? That would make searching a lot more intuitive.
Also, how do we make a difference between the character Dink Smallwood and the game Dink Smallwood? I think they both merit their own article.

You could probably call one of the articles "Dink Smallwood (Game)" and the other one "Dink Smallwood (Character)", I'm sure I've seen other wiki's do things like that.
Yeah, use #redirect [[Dink Smallwood]] on dink and get dink smallwood when refering to the game show the main page.
"Can't you redirect "Dink" to "Dink Smallwood"? That would make searching a lot more intuitive."
I actually tried to do that a while ago but it wouldn't work for some reason. Just deleted everything on the page and put a redirect there instead... can't remember what happened but it didn't do what it was supposed to

*rises from Internet Cap to full speed and joins the wikia*
Seems to me that the Dmod pages (only 2? ) need quite a bit more attention to detail than just the plot the Dmod's actual files would say, such as an outline of what happens in the Dmods. Most wikia's I've come across have just about full walkthrough's for addon stories (e.g Runescape Wiki's quest walkthrough's)

Write something about ducks. Can't believe that you forgot about that.
Wohooo!! This is stickied!!
Now start writing stuff, dammit!

Made some changes and additions to the Magic Page, mainly adding the Spells section.
I will continue to update the Wiki as often as I can with whatever information I can gleam from the histories of Dink, but the wiki could certainly use more screenshots. Particularly it could also use an update to the various spells that have been Dmod-Author created in a separate table.
If anyone plans on doing this, create the table so that it is 3 collumns long at the very least, leaving room for the Spell name, the Dmod it is found in, and a basic description.
Anyway; With the Quake and all here in real-life I'm going to leave taking a look at other pages alone for now but I plan on taking a look at weapons and the other Stat pages next.

I added a couple of horribly obscure articles.
If we keep up this pace, it shouldn't take too many decades to fill the wiki up to a reasonable standard.

I'm contributing too! My name on there is "Tchakkazulu", since someone else already took magicman.
Yeah, the registration system is a bit odd... It's interchangeable with many other wikis, so most remotely common names are already taken. I've also joined a few other wikis by accident, if you're perma-logged into this one and visit another wiki it will sign you up in that one too.
Considering creating a page on the Wiki for easier access to explaining the directory problem experienced in Windows Vista onwards for Dmods. Not sure what to call it though and naming the page is the first thing it asks.
Hey, if anyone out there is still interested in the Dink Wiki and want to keep this post stickied (so that people visiting TDN can find the wiki), please go there and do something!
The wiki is currently so unfinished that anyone who has so much as played the original game should be able to think of something to add, whether it's a new article, a new paragraph in an existing article, or just a minor edit to crush an annoying typo.

I would, but apparently the Wiki doesn't allow me to edit nor add anything.
That's weird. Did you log in? (You shouldn't have to, but...)
I did log in. When I click "edit", or try to create a page, it loads fine, but the place where I (guess I) should write, is just blank. That area reacts to nothing as if it didn't load when the rest of the page did.
I just edited a few things and wrote a brand new article. \o/
Ok, apparently the problem was with the browser. Edited a few things with Google Chrome!! That's right, Firefox! In your face!
A slightly random thought, could we use the wiki for Dmod walkthrough's? Its one way to back-up Dink Solutions.
Unstickied. If we ever get anyone to change the partners list, we can add the Dink wiki there, but I think it's too dead at the moment to really warrant a sticky.
