New Contest: Evil Hero D-Mod
Are you interested in making D-Mods, but simply can't find the motivation to do it? Or are you quite good at making them, and want to find a new challenge? Tada, this Contest might help.
Basically, the goal of the contest is to make an Evil Hero D-Mod. It also allows D-Mods to compete against D-Mods in a Contest, instead of battling everything in DOTM contests.

The Rules
Deadline: All entries must arrive at redink1@rpgplanet.com before June 1st, 2003, PST, and they will be put online later that day.
If you upload your entry to another public website before it is on The Dink Network, it is disqualified from the Contest.
Voting: Voting will be conducted by the Senior Staff within a week of the deadline.
If there are less than 3 entries, the contest is basically cancelled, and no prizes will be awarded.
Prize: The current idea is the 1st place winner would get an item of their choice from The Dink Network's store. That may change in the future, but at the very least there will be a real, prize of value awarded. If more than one person works on the winning D-Mod, only one prize will be awarded.
Size: The D-Mod must be less than 2 MB zipped.
Specifications: The main player character must have some evil traits. You could have an Evil Hero start out evil, and learn to be good across the course of the D-Mod, start out good and become evil, or just be evil the entire time.
Multiple player characters are allowed, where at least one of them is evil.
You can use any graphics for the main player character, including brand-new ones (Dink, a Chest, a Scorpion from SOB, etc.)
Misc: If you have any questions, or think some of my rules are a bit silly, please post a comment or a message on the board.
Oh, and because there is a prize, and the voting will be conducted by the Dink Network Senior Staff, any entries by redink1, Dukie, WC, Kyle, and Tal are not eligible.
Previously released D-Mods are not eligible, nor any parts of their map and/or story. For example, Sharp couldn't take Milder 3 submit it for the contest. However, if you wanted to have a SOB scorpion as an enemy (or character) that is allowed.
The point of the Evil Hero theme was to make it so people couldn't just submit a D-Mod they've been working on for months. So if have been working on a D-Mod that fits in the rules for a while, please start a new one.
You can use as many new graphics as you wish (as long as the D-Mod zip size is under 2 MB). You can have new tiles, Characters, Trees, anything.
You can submit more than one entry. But beware: you may end up 'splitting the vote', and allowing another D-Mod to win, like the Green Party and Democrats vs the Republicans in the 2000 election.

Yippee! The contest has started, and it pretty much coincides with the release of PQ graphics pack.
Maybe I'll be able to finish my d-mod for this comp. Pity I can't enter Nerux..

"For example, Sharp couldn't take Milder 3 and reduce it to 60 screens for the contest."
60 screens? More copy 'n paste?
60 screens? More copy 'n paste?
Paul, it's a example for christ sakes!
Yeah! ive got an idea but im not entering your a guy whos one day in a forest then you return home and the towns on fire kinda like legend of the dragoon whitch is made by the creators of Final Fanasy series
when ever will there be a compo that alowes the use of new graphics?..
This one does... there are no graphics limitations, except the file size.
hmm, i havent posted in about a month. I would have gotten started on the contest by now if i had been keeping up to date with this site, but oooh well, maybe ill catch the next contest. And Lavrik, you can some stuff in 2mg, what takes up most of the space is the graphics, and you dont need to add all the graphics you want in there, because graphics that are in the dink.ini lines that arent in your graphics folder will still appear in the game if you use the dink editor to put them in there because the dink editor checks your dink folder when it cant find something that is specified in your dink.ini lines, also, i do admit admit that 2meg might be kinda of hard to do, but we have only had like a month to script and make a map, so it has to be pretty small, i think some people might be able to meet the restrictions, but some might have a little trouble.
The contest was only announced a few days ago trav666, you still have time!
Why not make an evil fighterz game?
Why not make an evil fighterz game?
I wont be doing it cuse i have a bad sense of humor and im not that great at story telling
hay ahh redink I dont get DQed if I axe you how to change main charicter to sumthin else do I
Check out the Alternative Heroes Tutorial for how to change the main character to something else.
It's a wonderful tutorial, for which the author was nominated for the "Nobel Prize For Greatness". Sadly, he lost to a time machine invented by a small rat-like creature, possibly a pokemon of some kind.
It's a cool contest! But I think I can't finish my plans before 1 June. So is it ok that I submit my DMod as a demo (for the contest) and later (not for the contest, just because I like the project) release the full version?
Also a question on the contest. Should we have our entries tested by other Dinkers before officially submitting them? (Not that i have enough time to have it tested by someone else than my girlfriend).
