I had 6 rats in total. Rats are awesome.

But having just one rat on his own isn't right, man. A rat needs to be with at least one other rat in order to not be totally unhappy.

I used to have a white rat named Miss Precious. Unfortunately they just don't have long enough life spans for me.

The only pet I ever want is a pet dragon.

Unfortunately, since dragons are mythological, I'll stick to a pet cat.

In total, I've had 8 rats. 2 when I was 16 or something, and 6 over the past few years.

They really make great pets They're very sociable, terribly funny and smart, you can basically teach them anything, if you're REALLY patient. And they are just irresistible cute when they eat or sleep, and that's basically what they do all day

It's too bad they live for such a short time though, but like all the crappy things in life, that's all due to us humans, since pet rats stem from lab rats. That's why they die of all those horrible tumors and stuff

Yeah, when they get out they have all the energy in the world (and love to nibble on everything I own...)but yeah, basically, when they've got nothing better to do, they sleep.

Except for one time when of them broke loose and hid chocolate easter eggs which were on the table everywhere! Then she was pretty worked up all day wooOO Sugar

yeah thats another thing, when in their cages all they do is plot an escape. mine would take candy all the time but he actually had the nerve to try and steal an ENTIRE hot pocket from me once! i was eating one and had the other one on a plate on my bed and he comes and grabs it and starts dragging it away so i just slapped him and took it back lol. also once my friend came over and he had a bottle of whipped cream (it wasnt for *us* i swear) but he decided for some reason to feed some to my rat, and that was probably the most hyper i ever saw him. yeah, it wasnt good. do you have any pics of your rats? what kind are they?

I have LOADS of pics, but I'll have to upload them first.
Sadly, they're all gone now.

I've had them in all colours and sizes First one was a husky, grey with a white v-mark on it's head and white flanks, called Alcohol (yes, I was 15...) her friend was actually my sister's, called Rachel (bluh), and she was a Japanese Hooded, brown with white.
Then we had Satan (haha), which had their original 'wild' colour and was really big and active, so, since a many people are afraid of rats, the name seemed appropriate. She was very cute though
Puk was another husky, and Boo (after the hamster of Baldur's Gate) was champagne-coloured, with dark-red eyes.
Then we had Jappie, another Japanese Hooded one, she was very darkbrown/black and white.
And two 'rats on loan', V'Aylen, a himalayan (white with a small black spot on it's nose) and Cirea, a cinnamon-coloured one.
Woh, this must be awfully boring to read But hey, you asked for it

Never had them but I used to know someone who did. Remember a lovely brown one called Teasel.

They also kept stick insects, giant African snails, and several different varieties of chicken!

You shouldn't get your rats are the pet shop... They're bred by heartless people who don't give them any attention and who do not socialize them at all. Those rats tend to die of terrible diseases even more than other rats.
The reason you find so many white rats in these stores is because the breeder uses the same rats so many times that they eventually lose all 'good' genes. Albino rats usually have trouble seeing, tend to get cancer and other tumors much easier and have a worse health overall.
If you want to get rats, get them at a rattery, where people lovingly raise them, and watch the parent rats for health and condition. Also, the parents aren't used as breeding machines, which is nice And you're more likely to find a fat brown one like we had, since they have more different species.

yeah, I had my rat in a pet shop,
he was just a baby so I raised him with lots of care and I managed to "socialize" him, so he was sweet, clean, and liked humans.
But he was an albino, and just as said Joycilaanie, they tend to have quite bad health, and he contracted a disease 5 months after and died after one month.

So now if I want another pet rat, I have friends of mine who breed them, raise them a little, then they keep 'em or ask friends to do it. Better that way.
