You shouldn't get your rats are the pet shop... They're bred by heartless people who don't give them any attention and who do not socialize them at all. Those rats tend to die of terrible diseases even more than other rats.
The reason you find so many white rats in these stores is because the breeder uses the same rats so many times that they eventually lose all 'good' genes. Albino rats usually have trouble seeing, tend to get cancer and other tumors much easier and have a worse health overall.
If you want to get rats, get them at a rattery, where people lovingly raise them, and watch the parent rats for health and condition. Also, the parents aren't used as breeding machines, which is nice
And you're more likely to find a fat brown one like we had, since they have more different species.
