In total, I've had 8 rats. 2 when I was 16 or something, and 6 over the past few years.
They really make great pets
They're very sociable, terribly funny and smart, you can basically teach them anything, if you're REALLY patient. 
And they are just irresistible cute when they eat or sleep, and that's basically what they do all day 
It's too bad they live for such a short time though, but like all the crappy things in life, that's all due to us humans, since pet rats stem from lab rats. That's why they die of all those horrible tumors and stuff
