I think it's human nature to be overly optimistic about the world, and little things like this force us to confront reality.
I had an experience once where I saw a car swerve and crash into a tree just on the edge of a park. There was a bunch of teenage girls exercising barely a couple of metres away which would have been pretty terrifying. Some people (maybe family members) came but they parked on the wrong side. I saw them running across to the accident. It was pretty surreal.
A friend of mine told me that once he saw someone slip and get their leg stuck between the train and the platform in a subway station. The driver didn't see and accelerated the train, pulling the guy along. Everyone could see that either he was going to get pulled under the train or have his legs torn off when he reached the end. Luckily he managed to get out before he reached the wall.
It's normal to feel shook up about these things that make you rethink about life, but if you still feel uneasy in a couple of weeks you should consider talking to someone about it.
