Nothing but the herb boots, but I put nearly all levelups on attack. (excluding the first few- IIRC there are not enough "secret stat boosts" around early in the game for the amount of magic you need to be able to learn Acid Rain) There's a secret island east of windemere with lots of goodies and gold, as well as a secret castle at the edge of the world with monsters that give a fair amount of gold and experience, though going there is kinda straying off the way.
Throwing axe is good for quick kills and decent damage around that point of the game, (it always has at least a strength of 15 too) but towards the end, if you're going the magic route you'll propably need the heavy bow and power shots to be able to do fair damage with weapons. Couldn't say, I've always liked the light sword more. In any case, Fire Bow isn't worth the time it takes to collect 25.000 gold pieces...
