These guys have great info on cleaning up services. And Merlin asked if you can boot from a CD. If you had Puppy Linux or a similar OS that can run as a live cd, you could try burning with that instead of Windows... ( Not an answer, but may keep you going..[ of course not being able to burn linux to a disc may hinder that...])
