I think that it was really more of Wesley McElwee's and Gary Hertel's work in their D-Mods that proved more inspirational for the style that D-Mods today are made... The standard overworld with dungeon theme, where all the borders appear natural and realistic- opposed to the ol` fences to make screen borders- with a map that all together feels perfectly linear. As such, Snyder's D-Mods were not bad, persay, but have a different feel from the ones that were made later, such as SOB, Cast Initiation, and Cloud Castle.
