It's fairly common, particularly for anything of greater substance. I will say I find it irritating to remember them if there's more than one and they're supposed to play an important role such as in FB3, as there seems to be no standardised convention, and the scancode may differ across engines.
In many cases, the sorts of things bound to key scripts would have been better off implemented as a permanent inventory item, with the key used as a shortcut.
