LOOK UPON MY DEFORMED FACE!
There are a lot of games from around that time that still hold up reasonably well because they had a distinct art style. Age of Empires and its sequel have already been mentioned, but they're a good example of it, and people still played AoE II on GameRanger until recently when Microsoft re-released an "HD" version on Steam.

Another "series" of sorts in a similar vein is the Impressions city builder series made up of Caesar III, Zeus/Poseidon, and the Ancient Egyptian one. I played through both campaigns of Caesar III last year after discovering a fan-made widescreen patch and updated installer and it still holds up reasonably well due to its distinct graphical style and it has a nice soundtrack as well.
