If you have payed any attention to the storyline, you'll know that getting through the Goblin caves is a part of the quest in getting into the mines.

I seriously don't think the caves are that hard to get through. When Robj was betatesting, it took him around 15 mins max to get through the place. Shevek and Kyle got past that part without any advice, as far as I can remember. Some clues I can give you, in case you didn't know them already: Press spacebar to make Dink talk. That makes it easier to see where you are. If you come by any sudden stops, try nudging Dink around a bit and see if you can move that way (since some parts are a bit sticky). Also, note that the sound you are supposed to follow always quiets down a bit when you enter a new screen. This doesn't mean you're going in the wrong direction, I just couldn't really script it otherwise. As long as you can hear the sound, you are most likely going the right way.

I can't understand how you can "accidentally" leave the cave. After all this trying, you should be fairly familiar with its surroundings, and I don't think you could reach the stairs by accident anymore, unless you're aimlessly running around that one screen.
