There is no plot so bad that a sufficiently skilled DMOD author couldn't make a good DMOD out of it. And there is no plot so good that a sufficiently incompetent DMOD author couldn't screw it up.
Just look at some of the throwback contest entries for some examples of the first part of this statement...
Having said that... There still are some pretty bad ideas for DMODs. Romps about Dink killing an ancient have never worked for me. Ancients just don't appear to be all that special in a short DMOD...
