Read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Asscabin. Then play Baldur's Gate 2. When you've finished both you'll be well knowledgeable.
I believe the Diablo 2 expansion has some valuable information on the subject, too. Apparently, lycanthropy gives you increased attack power, and makes you look really silly when you walk.
*mutters to himself* of all the half-assed...*speaks normally* i mean theories on how you become one, what they actually ARE, not game references, (i would surely flunk if i did that!)
Well, hey, they are fiction after all, games should be as legit a source as any other story about them.
I can see how a school teacher might not appreciate that, though. The wikipedia article seems like a good place to start on the traditional werewolf stuff.

Krisknox, you may want to explore connections between Rabies and concepts of Lycanthropy prior to the era of enlightenment via the scientific/ industrial revolutions... i read that people with rabies were often thought to be werewolves - Exciting stuff, i say!
well, i did some research. Therianthropy is linked pretty close to werewolves, i think i'll include it with my report

In daggerfall, you had a ... 2 or 3% chance of getting Lycanthropy after getting bitten (not clawed), by a werewolf. The only downsides were that you had to kill a civilian once a month to turn back into human(not really that big a deal in that world), and that you might occasionally stumble across some were-hunters.
That, or you might not be a were-wolf. You could be a were-boar. Or a were-something else. It's been a long time. I forget.

Not sure if this is still a viable topic or if your work is done, but here is the Wikipedia article. If it is written correctly, there should be sources for all the info too.
