You may have noticed I havent been online as much lately.

You see I've become re-addicted to Starcraft through Battlenet online multiplayer. I use to have problems playing with dial-up, but now that I have cable I play fully unhindered. As I'm sure many of you know Starcraft is one of the best games ever and twice as replayable considering all the fan-made "use-map-settings" maps that range from mild fun to proffessional quality.

One map type in particular has caught my attention. It's called Diplomacy and the gameplay behind it is superb. I mean if I didnt know better I'd say it was made by experts and not fans.

In Diplomacy you have a map of Europe. You choose a nation at the beginning and use it through the game. There are 26 nations to choose from that vary in size/economy/ and military power. The nations are portrayed somewhat realistically. Now I know what your thinking..."arent some countries way more powerful than others?" and they are. However this is where the alliances rule takes in. At the beginning each player chooses one player to be permanent allies with and another to be permanent enemies with. They may make or break alliances with the other countries as they see fit.

Theres so much I cant tell thats just so much easier to show. For example how with small countries allying together they often take on one strong country and make it fair for those with weaker nations. Players backstab each other like in a political boardgame. Also the minerals you recieve are based on the amount of cities you have. Each area has special spots (marked by ancient Terran structures) that if you build a supply depot near causes them to give you money during an upkeep every 5 minutes. By conquering you gain more money and hence and produce more.

Considering the fact that everyone here plays PC games I'm sure you all own Starcraft. Considering the vastly different lands we all hail from I also think a game of Diplomacy being particularly interesting...and aggravating.

Anyone interested? I hope so...

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

P.S.

Finland pwns!

Hmm, Diplomacy? Thats new to me... I still remember playing Evolves, Rise of Rome, and Life as a Civilian. Battle.net rocks

And in a lot of ways, I still feel that Starcraft really had a special feel to it that never quite revealed itself in Warcraft III. I had the serial key to Starcraft, but I seem to have lost it, otherwise I would probably be on their more - not that we would even meet, because
I always played on the US West portal...

So VonZeppellin what time do you play?

Anyone else who wants to play post what time you can be online and playing.

I usually work afternoons and evenings so I'm always available in the late morning and early night. Thats 11am-1pm and 12am-2am Eastern time.
