so im making a special dmod that nobody knows about except redink until i guess now that im telling you its going to be the first dmod with actual mp3s i hope so people can test out if mp3s in dmods work and see how i did it and how mp3s effect how the dmod "feels" anyway i tested out dfarc and the .dmod file is 32.2 mb!! haha. im guessing mp3s dont compress well. but dont worry redink is going to put up the mp3s in a seperate file so you can just download the mp3 test dmod without any actual mp3s. why would you want to do that? i dont know. kind of defeats the purpose. but rules are rules apparently.

I was on doubt about downloading pq, which has about the same size.

Mp3s don't compressed well because when I made DFArc I chose a compression algorithm that provided the best overall compression of easy-to-compress files. MP3s are not easy-to-compress files as they are already highly compressed. Think of it as a trash compactor. Your trash is an audio file. You compact it into an MP3. Throwing that compacted trash into a garbage truck which again compacts it isn't going to yield much more space.

"im guessing mp3s dont compress well."

That's because they already ARE compressed. It's in the format.
Set the bitrate of MP3s low, like 32kbps. 33100 Hz is enough sound quality too.

EDIT: I posted without seeing the new posts, so I'm just saying what's been said before about compression.

yeah i know. or else we would just use .wavs for the music. and it would be like 30 mb PER SONG.

anyway, the people with good connections or patience can download this and behold what a 100% original high quality mp3 soundtrack is like for a dmod. i like the idea at least. just cause the graphics are from 1994 doesnt mean we have to use midi files forever.

I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to.I guess.
Unless your trash compactor is a neutron star. But then it takes a *really* long time to extract.

Then you've gone past the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff limit, and your data has been compressed, but there's been information loss. It's like turining a 50mB .wav file into a 1 bit mp3. There's a drop in quality. And, it takes pretty much the lifetime of the known universe to extract, and a lot of it will be released at the unbirthing of a black hole, causing a massive particle mess.

Have fun!

And, it takes pretty much the lifetime of the known universe to extract,
And to compress, too.
