I've recompressed the video tutorial I did a while back on starting a DMOD with WinDinkEdit. Instead of it being 75 MB it is now 28 MB in .dmod format.

It is a run through on using WDE to create a new DMOD based on the skeleton (B) which comes with the program. After a brief run down on what the skeleton DMOD consists of, I create two screens; place tiles; place sprites and attach default scripts and then test the DMOD.

Running time: 12 minutes 42 seconds
Codec: DivX 5.2.1

I tried to uploaded it here, but the upload feature times out at around 15 MB (must be my slow speed).

WDETUT01.dmod

Feedback on it's usefulness is welcome

(Oh, and Redink1: if you could upload it to here... I'd appreciate it )

Cool. I'm going to downlaod it and have a look at it in the hope that I can learn something from it (I have no idea if there are any WDE features I don't know about - there may be, but there may not be as far as I know).

Cool, news is posted and all that jazz.

I liked it. 7 feet tall grass

The sound seemed to get out of sync a little bit, and right before the 10 minute mark the audio got all funny for me... you were saying something about fireballs, and it got all funky.

I found that I had syncing issues whenever I would hit page-up or page-down in sequence viewer screen thing (the first time). I went in later and edited the audio (it cut out me saying 'page up' and 'page down' so it was quite easy to replace with Goldwave).

Audio sync is weird, I guess it depends on what software you use to record the screen capture. Which one do use, Redink?

At the moment I'm using frontcam (unregistered) as you can set the screen capture area pretty much to any you want... and then use Virtualdub to edit out the bit that has the default burn in in the top left hand corner.

But I'm not convinced of frontcam's usefulness if it can't maintain audio sync.

I think the audio weirdness you mention might be due to recompressing the frame rate from 20 fps to 10 fps to help reduce file size. I've just done another video tutorial about hardness editing in WDE in which I captured at 10 fps, and while the audio got ahead of the picture again, at least it didn't get distorted.

Might have to try a few other screen capture programs to see if any others offer better audio sync.

I used CamStudio... it works pretty well.

It is freeware, and I recorded straight to DivX. I couldn't get MP3 encoding to work from within the program, so I just used PCM and used VirtualDub to extract the audio and Goldwave to clean it up and compress it.

Bah.You all act like 28mb is small or something! I appear to download at around 12kb/second, so you can just figure out how long that's gonna take me.(more than 30min)

Try 4-4.5KB/sec I get (I'm stuck on dial-up since broadband is quite expensive here ($40-$70 a month for a a limit of 1,000-10,000MB that then caps spped at 64Kbps or you get charged 8 cents per additional MB, depending on your plan)). It took me a couple of hours to get it.
