can i use GIF files in dink smallwood?

Not yet. Or never, it depends. You could convert them to 32bit bitmaps, that'll work for sure, provided you have Dink v1.08.

and how do i convert them

Using any graphics program, they all have an option to save in a different fileformat. Do Save as and then choose the correct bitmapformat.

Try IrfanView. It's small and free and easy to use. Or the GIMP.

Or sadly, Windows paint.

The 32-bit would be great, but the files would be larger. Before you choose to convert your gif to 32-bit instead of 256 colors, think at the people with slow dial-up connectiones.
