I tried making menu and status bars and every time, they've just crashed the game.

I checked a dmod with custom bars that do work and I can confirm that the bit depths in this file are wrong.

They don't even work unedited. Was this even tested?

I swear to the earthly country music sensation that I've saved my bars in the correct format, used the correct bit depth, and it just doesn't work.

And while we're on the topic of graphics not working, I made a title screen with the correct everything also, and it just shows a white screen.

Link to become stumped.

EDIT: Mediafire's a bunch of pussies. Not like you can't tell what the file is really called anyways, dumb asses.
EDITEDIT: You can now thank scratcher that you can play with these beauties.

Are the status bars the right size?

That's 640x80 for the low bar, and 20x400 for the side bars.

Yep, everything's the right size.

EDIT: Ok, what the duck, Smallwood-Man! has 16 bit left and right menu bars and Historical Hero II has 24 bit left and right menu bars.

Nothing about this makes sense. At all.

Are the other frames there? For example, everything between menu-01.bmp and menu-09.bmp. While usually Dink can snag missing graphics from the original game, that doesn't work with individual frames, only when the entire sequence is missing.

I had before, but I don't know if both menu and status had them. I'll try it out.

EDIT: Both have all the frames now and it still crashes.

Tag - Umm.. tag, you're it?
so a sneaky fix is, open the original graphics - select them and delete the art then put your new bits where they were - be the right size right shapes and right resolution etc

I've tried pasting my menu-01 over an original one already. Or if not those graphics, I've done that already.

I tested these, and right you are, they just doesn't work for no reason.

Wat. No. This not happen ever. I can't understand how this happens

...with that said, I managed to fix it just by opening the graphics in IrfanView and saving them again (No changing bit depths, no nothing). Maybe the program you created them with just doesn't like Dink, or something? Pretty dorky.

But...I used gimp and paint.

EDIT: IrfanView worked...

I...what. How.

Still, that doesn't explain this file's usage of different bit depths than other dmods that also work and I guess bit depth doesn't matter but then what does and how did what.

So I guess IrfanView is what we should be turning to when a graphic file decides to not exist. Although, it did not fix the title screen. That remains highly mysterious. Like this entire thread.

I recently had mysterious problems with status bars, also. More specifically, in trying to create new screenlock bars. It just wouldn't work for some reason. Even if both my screenlock bars were the same (copied from one another), the one on the right side just wouldn't work in-game. I messed with it enough and eventually it even ended up effecting the game's coding itself somehow, to the point screenlocks wouldn't unlock when they were supposed to. I still don't understand how it happened to this day, nor how I managed to fix it. The status bar/menu graphics seem to be haunted.

EDIT: Fixed the link 6/13/2015 at 3:01 PM my time because the site redirected to the main page for no reason.

Gimp has given me issues with making or even editing Dink sprites too. I don't remember how I got around it but I think I had to download a significantly older version of Gimp and save them with that, using 16 bit. Although if Irfanview works than that probably won't be necessary. I've never tried messing with the screenlock bars, and based on Skull's experience, I probably won't in the future. I just don't have time to mess with ghosts right now.

I've never had that problem before or since though (except I guess it still does exist in that particular D-Mod). It was very strange. I couldn't copy it from the other screenlock graphic, which would've been ideal, so I had to remake it. Remaking it from scratch worked... until it started resembling the other one. Then it would stop working again. I seriously think it's some impossible paranormal thing or something. It literally makes no sense. Even by making it from scratch, when it started to look like I wanted it to, it stopped working, and the only way to fix it would be to replace it with the original Dink's screenlock graphic. Even when I copied the .bmp file from another D-Mod in which it had worked, it still wouldn't in that specific D-Mod. I got it to work in the end, but it still doesn't really look like how I want it to. But if I attempt to make it look any more like the other screenlock graphic, it's gonna stop working again.

I say we get magicman dressed in priest robes and holding a bible on the case.

If he can't explain it, he can banish it.

Did you make sure that the start script creates the right sprite? It may be trying to create a sprite that doesn't exist.

Turns out fillscreen(255) or whatever wasn't commented out.

Now the main menu is the loading bmp.

EDIT: I restarted the game and the screen I was on is the main menu...

I...I'm keeping this. My title screen can just be the new preview.

Here's the old one. Enjoy.
