How in the heck do I get through the caves underneath the Goblin Village? I know I'm supposed to follow the sound but I can't find my way through.

It helps to hit space over and over so you know where you are and if you're moving.

I've done that over and over and followed the noise until it gets louder and louder, but I never find anything. Am I supposed to be punching at something or does it take me to another room? Is there any way of directing me through this maze?

I think you want to go a screen down, then a screen to the right. Then you almost go a screen up but theres a path to the right you take, and then up. It's pretty annoying to navigate through there.

Note that even if you are going in the right direction, whenever you enter a new screen the sound will quiet down a bit again. But as long as you keep following the sound, you should be able to get through the place with little difficulties.

1. You can't visit him. You can free him by hitting a rock though.
2: You need to defeat Hades, then talk to the wall idol.
3: No idea.
4: Talk to the people in the house next door, they'll start the quest for you.

No, you can't.

The Goblin statue is a part of a long side-quest to get an easier access in to The Ancient Church. You need to complete that quest to get 100%.

Oh by the way, the person locked near the Goblin village isn't freed in fact by hitting a rock. But by using MageFist to the fence. Thought I'd clear that up. And thanks for the kind words.

Did he give you a scroll? If not, you may have a full inventory, so try to get rid of some stuff. If that's not the case, he has probably already given it to you. You just don't remember it.

Ok, I checked the source and found that you must not be ready for war with the goblins. If you are, you can't use it until you've battled them. This is probably meant so you can't use it during the battle, but it seems a bit too keen on forbidding the use.

I was enjoying this dmod thoroughly until I came to the goblin caves. After trying to find my way through them countless times over many, many days, I finally gave up. Since I can't get through the caves, there is nothing left for me to do, so I have quit playing the game. I believe that this part of the dmod is far too difficult.

It's not impossible, it's just really annoying. The barriers are bumpy and you can get stuck on them if you try to walk along the edge. Even after I looked up the path I still had a little trouble with it.

Thank you for your encouragement. I agree that the goblin caves are most annoying and I even wind up going in circles, i.e. I eventually appear in the goblin chief's hut. After doing that several times, I almost threw the computer monitor through the nearest window. I'll try again, but I don't hold out much hope.

It's a hard part, I agree. But some people made it through without any help, and quite fast might I add, just fine. So it definitely isn't impossible.

Also, I must disagree with your statement of there being nothing more you can do. There are so many side-quests in this D-Mod. You can always try one of those if you feel like taking a break from a hard main-quest.

Thank you for your reply, Skull. You've created an incredible game. Kudos to you. I'll give the caves another shot and search out other side quests listed in my diary. I didn't mention that so far, I have spent four full hours in the Goblin caves and I'm getting very angry at myself for floundering around so long. Based on that, I think you can see that I'm not a quitter, but I do have to know when to say, "I surrender."

Update: I'm still stuck in the Goblin caves after three more hours of trying to get through them. I exited (not on purpose) and decided to return to the VB. I killed the slayer in the house with the corpse and the two guards in the building where you enter the mine. The guard in the next room won't let me in and I've talked to every villager repeatedly, but nobody tells me how to get into the mine. What am I missing? I also bought the half scroll and don't know the significance of that.

If you have payed any attention to the storyline, you'll know that getting through the Goblin caves is a part of the quest in getting into the mines.

I seriously don't think the caves are that hard to get through. When Robj was betatesting, it took him around 15 mins max to get through the place. Shevek and Kyle got past that part without any advice, as far as I can remember. Some clues I can give you, in case you didn't know them already: Press spacebar to make Dink talk. That makes it easier to see where you are. If you come by any sudden stops, try nudging Dink around a bit and see if you can move that way (since some parts are a bit sticky). Also, note that the sound you are supposed to follow always quiets down a bit when you enter a new screen. This doesn't mean you're going in the wrong direction, I just couldn't really script it otherwise. As long as you can hear the sound, you are most likely going the right way.

I can't understand how you can "accidentally" leave the cave. After all this trying, you should be fairly familiar with its surroundings, and I don't think you could reach the stairs by accident anymore, unless you're aimlessly running around that one screen.

Thank you for your reply, Skull. I was taking your advice to take a break from the Goblin caves and pursue another side quest. However, I've spent so much time in the caves that I don't even remember the storyline and forgot that the side quest in the mine can't be completed until I finish the quest I'm stuck on. As for inadvertently exiting the cave, I have found that I get hopelessly lost and don't know what screen I'm in. All I know is that I'm at least moving somewhere. I get to one screen where if I go down, I'm suddenly at the top of the screen and vice-versa. I also constantly run into thorns or whatever which cause damage to Dink. I don't even know how many screens I have to make my way through to get to the crystal. It's encouraging to hear that many people get through the caves with no trouble, but hearing that makes me feel even more of a moron who has spent seven hours trying to do what others have done in 15 minutes.

I can understand why you'd feel like that. A few more hints: Like Leprochaun posted earlier in this thread, basically go down and then continue right. If you get hit by thorns, you should probably go back the other direction. Try to memorize every screen. They're not really that "mazey" (is that a word?). It's just the darkness that makes it seem that way.

When I play D-Mods, I usually make maps as I go along, and to make it easier I draw them on graph paper. Very helpful for maze-like areas.

Thank you again, Skull. I still haven't given up on getting through the Goblin caves and don't intend to do so. It's too good a game to give up on. Using your clues, I'll try again today. One beneficial aspect of not completing this side quest is that taking breaks from doing so has enabled me to reach level 20. I certainly have high levels of Strength, Defense, and Magic. I'm definitely looking forward to the Walkthrough. Thank you for your patient hints.
