Hey, I've been working on a small D-Mod lately. I bothered to create this topic since I'm sure this mod will get released in some form or shape in the near future. Hopefully by next Christmas.

Features a companion who follows along your adventures and beats down enemies!

It will also have a some-sortish non-linear structure, so you can finish the game three different ways. Which means the game will be really short unless you decide to replay it to get some other ending. Which you may or may not wish to do...

I'm not too much into posting updates every other day, so I'll probably only announce in this topic when I'm ready to release it. And comments are appreciated if they do not contain spam, thanks

This is something that I'd not do. I don't know about others, but I would probably not bother starting the D-Mod for a second time only for another short playing experience. Instead, maybe try to make one or two of the quests Quest sized, for example, and one a Romp. Or one as an Epic and two others as Romps.

Iplaydink, depends on how much time it spends in the upload queue

Skull, I know it will possibly be rather frustrating, and it'd be much easier to make a linear game. But I'm curious to see how it turns out, I have the story and the events written down. Besides, I made my goal to make a romp-sized D-Mod, and by this method it'll never turn into a quest... possibly.

It -would- be a quest to those willing to replay through it. I certainly would

I wish you luck with your Dmod! Multiple story paths can be difficult if you're going down completely separate storylines like I am with FoD. Of course if you're just making small things affect the ending, that's fine too.

Is it going to be a simple companion or perhaps one like David in Day of the Carcass?

So essentially you're making three DMODs in one, only using the same beginning and the same map? It actually sounds like quite an interesting idea. The success of this DMOD will likely be defined largely by how many peope choose to play it multiple times or try to get as much out of it as possible. This really depends on the quality of the final product, so the pressure to make something good is high! But since the River was a really good DMOD in my opinion I have confidence in this project. It wouldn't be something I would make, but that doesn't mean it isn't something I would play.

Be sure to play FB2 a couple of times for inspiration! And good luck.

Erwin, I don't think this companion system will be quite as advanced as yours. I wouldn't have patience to script such a monster I'll be concentrating on other aspects of this game first.

I wouldn't say three whole D-Mods. Not completely different storylines either. Three different paths (perhaps with smaller sub-plots along the way) seem to be leading into one common ending at this time. But it could all change while in the making!

I know Friends Beyond 2, but I never got very far into it. I was eager to see Wesley release an updated version or even parts of it, but we'll see...

Long time no visit... very well.

I have half-completed this mod. What I mean by this, is that even though I've finished making roughly 2/3 of the expected playtime, yet for me to come up with more fresh ideas for the final 1/3 is still going to require plenty of time, and perhaps even more work than I have already done so far! There are some new random screenshots at the bottom of this post, also.

Excuses, excuses... now what about the game, how is it shaping up?

It's very compact in size - very few maps during all the 2/3 that is done yet - but plentiful in its details, so I call it Epic. You have a few different ways to go about reaching your ultimate goal (money, fame, treasure?). You have your companion "pet" fighting on your side, but I have yet to get it working correctly. Miserable!

The whole atmosphere of this game seems a little different than most d-mods, perhaps I'm setting a new trend for myself here? It's certainly moving away from the style of d-mods I've enjoyed playing the most such as Stone of Balance or FIAT, and it's rather similar to that oddball classic Legend of Tenjin in its RPG-stylish flavor in many ways. As long as I'm NOT attempting to imitate LoT, I tell myself, that I'm allowed to continue making it! I wouldn't stand if I was consciously imitating - also, even worse if my game had no humor in it! At its core, BOUNTY HUNTER is very dinkish, in fact, in its many details, references, shoutouts, or in that plain silly stuff that most of the game's interaction is made out of.

I do wish you have some patience still to stay tuned for this mod. It's a promise I made to have it done for Christmas, even if I'm referring to that certain Christmas when all your relatives have long since passed away and you're feeling miserable sitting in a wheelchair at a nursing home during the last years of your long, long lived life. Even if it means you still have to wait some time for the release - sorry. About it.

Yea, man it looks good, My dmod, wont turn out as well as yours, I understand what you mean by non-linear, I mean, the Dmod I'm making will let you try and finish the quest right away, but you'll probably die over and over again, so it would be good to do sidequests and whatnot to get level ups, and items. I haven't decided if I wanted to make it non-combat except for the boss, or full on combat. I really need help with the scripting though, I just don't feel like asking for help every time a problem comes up. The map is looking good though, and I already have a great plot set up. If I'm every gonna put it up though, I'm definitely gonna need to learn more than basic scripting though.

I didn't even finish the river but I am the only one to have reviewed it. Watch it get deleted now. It's funny though if you read through it I said "I really liked the scripting one of my favorite parts". Back when I very first joined the community I thought scripting was the like an actual script LoL .

As for not quite finishing the d-mod yet still wrighting a review. I just didn't have enough time on my hands to finish it. Though I found that I really Enjoyed it. I saw that I didn't have a review so I wrote one based on what I knew already.

I know and how long would it be before it got one I made it relatively far. I think I stopped at the farming maybe after.

Edit elete it if you must. I meant no harm by doing so if I didn't I'd never use what I learned in reading class.

And I think I'm out of this hole. You don't have to finish a D-mod to rate it. Your reviewing it based on story:just the base line not the actual story remember ms.dink no spoilers Midis:I heard just about all the Midis your not grading them individually just on sound and placement. And there is mapping: as soon as you start a D-mod you can tell wether or not the mapping will be good or bad (only for most D-mods). And if you like you can rate it on other little things .

I am not meaning to pick on you here mrgantoe, I just feel its bad form if you are going to write a review and not play the game to its conclusion before doing so - thats a disappointment to the authors who spend a lot of their time on these files and also to those (especially Dink enthusiasts who don't join the forums) who rely on informed accurate review/scores to select downloads to play.

If its so bad you can't finish - thats one thing to review it incomplete - but laziness? Nope, totally unfair and does not give an accurate account of the actual game.

I don't think you are picking on me msdink but who ever said laziness I just said I didnt have enough time. School and all. And trust me when it got accepted I did feel a tinge of guilt. But the DN is only a website sadly I shall not let it consume my life.

hehe thats good mrgantoe, cause I am not - and yay the DN shouldn't consume your life, but it is fun aye

I do applaud your honesty though, because I notice others do it as well... same for voting for files on the forum - its done not because they used and liked - its because they are supporting a dinker they know and maybe like instead (on occasion).

So many say 'I only tried this one, or this is the only one I tried - so I will vote for it'. I always thought that was unfair on the other, usually excellent files. Not taking anything away from those that won, I mention this because I know people work really hard on these and if we are prepared to judge or comment on their work, dont you think we need to be able to do it fairly? I think that it some what unfair but people play what they expect to be good and if it is really good then they will not bother with the others I played mapro's first because I really enjoyed fall of Tahmar. You yourself must particularly been Affended by the actions (couldn't think of a better word blame my teen mind). You set your own time aside to set up all the carnage.

I was meaning the RRR's and reviews or where files are voted for or scored by us.

To Mrgantoe, if I could go back I'd make the farming part in the River more accessible anyways - it's tricky enough to finish it without getting fed up/finding other things to do...

I agree reviewing d-mods based on initial impressions alone, meaning without finishing the mod in question, shouldn't be the goal of any serious reviewer here. Do atleast mention that you didn't finish the mod in the review, so that others might have a reason to go there and write a competent review instead. But as I said, I don't blame you for giving up at the farming part

Ah, this is my dev thread, indeed. It's ok MsDink So what have I accomplished during this 2 days I wrote my last post here? Guess I... rewrote most of the dialogue already to make more sense, that's it? Also, there's 388 scripts in total so far, and some 6+ tracks of custom music, too.
