How do I go fishing?

Right, so I'm in the Land of Reverence, and I've got the Fireball spell from the Dolmen/cairn stone south of the of the ruined house, south of which, incidentally, is the screen with the yellow snapper trout that the guy practicing magic in his house wants. The problem is that I can't throw fireballs or fire arrows beyond the border of the land, unlike the area where three blue fish are jumping (not where the former knight is, but where the body of water is surround by land on three sides) and I can kill those three fish, providing I time my shots right.

So, how do I get ahold of the yellow fish? Also, why does Dink comment that he's not pushing from the right direction when I try to move the dolmen that gave me the fireball scroll? Is there more the dolmen can give me?

BTW, I do have the guide for SOB Part 1 bookmarked.

It's not, really. It's just that you have to perform actions in a specific order, or else you bugger the whole thing up and you're stuck.

I'm not really new, I just don't post until I need to, which isn't often. So, low post count. Anyway, like I said, I already have the solution for SOB Part 1 bookmarked. All it says in regard to getting into Mandrake's place is:

Getting past the flames that guard the way to Mandrake’s abode is tricky. You have to talk to one of his students that keeps zapping in and out as they practice "translocation magic". The trainee wizard gives you a clue as to who to talk to, to get help with the flames. Just listen to what he says. This helper can also been found in the Forest of Wickedness. It’s the well, arm the backdoor key, talk and you’ll be given ice armour in exchange for the key. (Key to your solution is the clue the apprentice gives... solution is what is in the well...)

I've tried talking to the well with the key armed, but it does nothing. I've also tried talking to the student wizard with the key armed, but he keeps saying he wants a yellow fish. I'm assuming the student wizard is the one who has the stone circle inside his home, and isn't inside the Forest of Wickedness.

You do not need (nor is there any way) to get the yellow snapper. Just accept it as something extra in the story that SimonK never got around to doing (just like the pumpkin whiskey/wine lady). The guy with the circle of stones in his house does nothing as well. It's just an empty story-plot and he's only there for your entertainment.

As for the talking well, I don't recall that you have to actually arm the yellow. Just make sure you have it in your backpack, and then talk to the well.

Yeah, that well's not doing anything. Just to be clear, we're talking about the key used to get in the back door of the church, right?

[EDIT]
NVM, I got it. For some reason, the student wasn't showing up underneath the tree in the stone circle. Or rather, he did his disappearing act as soon as the screen loaded, and a bug prevented him from reappearing. Something I did got him to stay a little longer, long enough for me to walk up to him (Herb Boots equipped, of course) and talk before he disappeared. Now the well will talk to me, and gave me the Ice Armour. And yes, you have to arm the key.
