The nation above all
So, I decided to continue my journey to play (and review) all D-Mods. Let's get right to it!

Storyline:
Dink is trapped in a place named the Slaughterhouse, his goal is to escape by the way to meet (and probably defeat) a being referred as "Him". It's a simple premise - nothing wrong with that, plenty of D-Mods started with such. They either twisted with player expectations, started to develop the story into something more complex, or just decided to focus on gameplay instead. One good example would be Quest for Cheese, whose plot is exactly what it says, but sends you on one of the most absurd journeys in any D-Mod. So what's the problem? The problem is, the D-Mod barely has any more story then mentioned premise, and doesn't have gameplay that makes up for it. Like, I'd have liked to know: how and why did Dink get here? Why is it called the Slaughterhouse? Does it have something to do with the corpses everywhere? Why are those here? What are pillbugs doing in this place? How do the characters get around with the pillbugs? What is the backstory of the characters? What are they doing here? Just to name a few.

Graphics:
There are no new graphics apart from the title screen, but I admit, that does look good.

Mapping:
Not bad, but feels quite avarage. No major issues apart from two places on the first screen where you can go out of bounds.

Gameplay:
This is where the D-Mod falls short for me. You have one "quest", which consists of fighting (or just avoiding) pillbugs, talking to one character, and fetching some items. I'd be more forgiving if that process were at least a little interesting, but unfortunately, it isn't.

Humour:
The D-Mod attempts to have some jokes, mostly related to looking or hitting the furniture. Unfortunately, they didn't click with me.

Bugs:
Nothing apart from the laack of hardness mentioned above.

Overall:
The D-Mod feels like someone's first D-Mod. Don't get me wrong it's far from bad compared to some other D-Mods out there, but it offers nothing really interesting. It is clear that effort went into this, but unfortunately, it fails to be remarkable in any way. It's just... okay. I can't really recommend to anyone to play this, unless you just want to play every single D-Mod out there. There are D-Mods that I gave worse ratings for their problems, but despite that, some were worth playing because they were hillariously bad, or their story was utterly absurd. I think this D-Mod's destiny is to forever be just a footnote in Dink history. But that's fitting I guess.

Aah, Dink visits the slaughterhouse, where duckies and piggies get sliced up for meat. Now then, basically the stoyline to this is the fact that Dink somehow ends up in the middle of the entrance of a slaughterhouse with no way to get out. Obviously he has to go in. He goes in and then here's about some evil called HIM. In the end this ends up nothing to do with people processing animals and then eating them as I thought it would, it ends up with everyone obsessed about a duck called HIM. Oooh, woopey-doo-dah. Nothing interesting here, nothing hard. Read the strengths and weaknesses to find out why this romp clearly isn't very good at all...

Strengths
---------

Has an unusual storyline which is kinda good. It's not your average romp storyline and I like D-MODS that are original. I found there was only one midi in this D-MOD but it was used to it's best possible use. It's basically a doom themed midi, giving you the feeling of death or something like that. Anyway, I really thought that short little title screen was very good. A little thing saying The Slaughterhouse is not good, well, not always. You see the title screen has been shown very well and with really cool graphics. A red blood fiery feeling comes across when you see it, and it's even decorated with some nice little ducks with their heads splattered with blood on the floor. I liked this lots. I also found that for a romp this is extremely fun, much better than your average romp, but it's weaknesses do let it down, you can find out what they are by viewing the weaknesses section of this review, below...

Weaknesses
----------

Ends up nothing to do with a slaughterhouse but in the end to do with a duck called HIM. The duck ends up saying that he will kill you but you eventually go up to him and punch him and his head falls off dead. Easy, I hate easy bosses. As I've previously stated there is only one midi in this game which is not good. Other than that the D-MOD is fine, I'll leave it alone now...

Overall
-------

I'm sure you can guess

Total 7.0
Grade C (Yeah, good for a romp!)

LOOK UPON MY DEFORMED FACE!
On June 8th 1998, Mike Snyder announced the very first D-mod-making competition to be held between June 9th and July 2nd. The rules were fairly straightforward and required entrants to have a legitimate purchase of Dink, to release the resulting mod with no price attached to it, and for the submission to be finishable within two hours. Before the deadline, four entries were submitted including Sword of Paranor, Dinkopolis, Pointless, and of course The Slaughterhouse.

This was only a few months after the initial release of Dink in January, meaning modding resources were still very scarce, and Mystery Island hadn't even been finished. Mike Snyder only came out with his famous "Skeleton B" two days before the competition deadline in fact, and "Scar of David", the first non-RTSoft D-mod only a few months prior in March. Needless to say, the expectations would have been fairly low, and the relative quality of the entries reflects this.

The Slaughterhouse may be finished in roughly five to ten minutes, and consists of walking through a deceptively large house while performing a few fetch quests in order to figure out the mystery of "HIM". It also features the usual array of punchable/talkable inanimate objects that are worth exploring too. Of the four entries, it very narrowly beat the second-place "Sword of Paranor" to win the first prize of $100 from Seth. The second prize was $65, and the third was $35, both given by Mike Snyder himself. The top three entrants also received a CD of Dink from RTSoft.

In the final averaged tally determined by the judges, The Slaughterhouse received a score of 6.35 versus Paranor's 6.32. Its historical significance is far greater than that, however, so I will round it up to 6.4.

The game is good for novices(to practice playing D-mods).

First Reason:The mod is short,but for a romp-it's Okay.

Second Reason:The story with the object, that you have to uncover is very good.

Third Reason:But there is one problem. It could be better if "HIM" was a bit stronger.

Generally, the mod is quite cool.I want to say to the creator to continue creating D-mods.
And it's going to be very well if he create an epic mod.

This was a funny, short little romp.I enjoyed the humor of the dmod
author. The graphics were all from the original game and there was
no music. However, everything worked fine except the game didn't shut
down on it's own at the end.I was terribly impressed by the end-boss
and almost afraid to try and fight him.It wasn't ever explained how dink
came to be there or why he never got to leave at the end but I still
laughed a few times and that alone makes it worth playing.

This d-mod gets too funny towards the end.At the beginning, you enter a house and see blood all over. There are monsters everywhere and you expect a really tough opponent at the end that will be hard to beat. But,instead of that, you meet the opposite thing. You'd better see for youself.
It's worth to download only if you want to laugh a bit.If you want a serious game, then leave it.

Storyline: A very simple one: Dink is stuck in a house and needs to find a way out. In order to do that, he needs to defeat someone called HIM.

Map and graphics: The map is tiny, but looks al right. No new graphics.

Music: Very good music that suits the situation real well.

Good: You really want to find out who HIM is.

Not so good: Both the readme.txt and the whatsnew.txt look like a .d file: very hard or even impossible to read.

Overall: A nice little D-mod.

Fit for: If you want to have a couple of minutes of fun.
