I've come back to this DMOD after a long time. It is a medium sized quest that has amusing moments and very easy game play. Dink disguises himself to find 3 or the 9 gems of life in an effort to stop the new Cast.

Graphics: Some new ones, including a new (black) slayer which was pretty well done, except for the death graphic - the green blood was a little too flourescent for me. Some bad octopus graphics, but the best thing is the new Dink (used from some other game I assume).

This new Dink is pretty well done, except for the crawl (new Dink changed back into old Dink for the crawl) and at one point the attack with a sword kept having a pole flash at the end.

Overall: 8 out of 10.

Map work: Average. Lots of depth dot errors with Dink and bridges, corners of houses - but there is some nice looking composition here and there, and then there is some mis-matched tiles in other places.

Picking up some objects was hard as the depth dot/hard boxes seemed to be off.

7 out of 10.

Sounds: Nothing new here. 7 out of 10.

Music: Mildly distracting, but not altogether unpleasant. 7 out of 10.

Gameplay: Too easy for me. Way too easy. Lots of potion bottles just lying around. Lots of go to person C find out you need to go to person B, then person A, and then back to B, off to C.

Conversations with people didn't always update which I find annoying.

6 out of 10.

Bonus: Humour and new look to Dink. (Way before the alt hero thing became the flavour du jour) I liked the humour. Very much in a style that it seems others have come to imitate.

9 out of 10.

Overall: A very easy DMOD for those that don't like too much of a challenge. Have some fun.

The Demon Lord Jaitz can only be stopped if 9 gems are retrieved.

Storyline: In this part (there is also part 2) Dink has to find the first three of the 9 gems. The story is divided in three quests; each one to find a gem. The first quest is rather long, the second one really short and the third one rather short too.

Map and graphics: The map is nicely done. The three stories each have their own setting, for example in a desert. There are several new graphics, but most of them are not that good or are rather cartoon-like. The dragon on the title screen is nice though. Dink has to disguise himself. Those graphics used for Dink remind me of The Prince of Persia - at the end of the D-mod, there is also a picture of this hero. Some new things are done with old graphics; there are windows in houses, a staircase, and a miniature town (someone’s hobby). The holes in the ice are very nice, and Dink’s reaction when falling into one is hilarious. Some enemies have changed colours: the slayer is black. There are new enemies too, although they are rather cartoonish –and I still wonder what an octopus is doing on the ice instead of beneath it.

Music: Suits the situation.

Good: The way Dink attacks and hit is very good. I would say even better then the original Dink. The blow given with the knife is really good.

Not so good: Some hardness errors on tiles. A warp on a house warps you to a blue screen with no way out. Another warp crashes the game. You can find a lot of potions, which is not bad, but it makes defeating the bosses real easy. A bit more of a fight would have ad to the adventure, because now I killed a dragon-end-boss with one blow.

Overall: Nice story, nice gameplay.

Fit for: Everyone who wants to play a good D-mod.

The D-Mod itself is a good adventure, but it has bugs and depth dot errors. It also contains bad grammar. Mapping is avarage, the music is forgettable. The D-Mod contains graphics ripped from other games and some badly drawn paint graphics. The highlight goes to the new look for Dink. While the graphics are not original it's well implamented to the Dink graphics style. The story is nothing special, althrough it uses some interesting background lore. The puzzles are mostly simple, but a bit varied. The gameplay rewards exploration which I like. Overall, it's a good D-Mod, if a bit buggy. I would recommend it to people looking for a short Dink adventure.

Dinks new look was cool (except when he was walking). The whole DMOD was way too easy, too many mega poitions and nothing to use all the gold for. Map design was ok (need to patch of some holes) and fix the door on the house that takes you into the middle of the ocean where you can't do anywhere. Also put up fences or walls or something where you can't walk off but it looks like you can. Music was ok nothing extra special. Overall not too bad, also liked the humor in it.

Well I finished the Dmod at last. Not one of the best I have played so far but pretty good.

Graphics : Dink's new look was good, but he looks odd when he walks. The black slayer was done very neatly, the thing I liked most from the graphics point of view. The knife was very good though.

It was very irritating when Dink walked, and he changed into original one when he crawled in some hole.

Sounds:
No new sounds that I heard

Midis:
Some nice midis that suited the location and environment but in someplaces distracted also.

Gameplay: As the reviwers before me have mentioned that the gameplay was too easy. At times it was interesting but also boring: you talked to one person, he told to go to the person and he told to talk to the first person again.
The comments from the mosters was a good idea. There are a few hardness bugs and depth dot errors.Unfinihed map doesn't look realistic, there should be a river or forest to give the look that this is a dead end.

Overall: Good

This D-Mod, well, I don't have much to say about it. It's cool with it's new graphics like the iceball spell (or what ever it is) and Dink's new clothes and the gems (although i'm not sure if that's new.) It's a cool mod though. I give Jveenhof an A- for making an okay D-Mod that's a little incomplete. You could have made getting the second and third jem adventures a little longer. Now the scores.

1st 2nd 3rd
Storyline 7.0 | 5.0 | 6.0
Map 10.0 | 7.5 | 6.0

Overall 7.33 | 7.66 | 6.63

Well all the scores are under 8.0 I still give this D-Mod 8.4 Good job Jveenhof.

Funny little dmod.

The good:
* I love the new dink graphics ! Great knife effects too.
* Lots of goodies to be found
* Some secret areas
* Good intro scene and accompanying sound effects
* Amusing (though in the beginning confusing) comments from monsters when you fight them. (Confusing as I initially thought they would have clues and such, though when you've taken the first hit, you figth back)

The so-so:
* Gameplay is a bit boring and repetitive: to get a, you have to get b, to get b, you have to get c.
* With all the goodies, the fighting was a breeze, which to be fair makes it a bit too easy

The bad:
* Quite a few bugs (game crashed completely once, hardness errors, some tiling which isn't quite the way it should be)
* Unfinished map: various areas where you can't go to the next screen cause it doesn't exist
* Hardly any magic - you can get a "iceball" spell which is very weak and not really much use except for the tree burning

Overall: nice little diversion

9 Gems of Life (The) by Jveenhof Wolfblitz

The Good: Dink has a new look, and a new weapon! The midis were good and a large area to be explored. Lots of monsters to be beaten, I like the octopus, as well as secrets too be found. The save bots were almost always at the healers hut. He seems to have almost all the season’s covered here, and each one proved a challenge. The game had some funny sayings in it, something different for a change.

The Bad: Many, many bugs. Walking through walls can send you to another area of the map, or in another zone altogeather. Luckily I saved the game a lot. A lot of money, but nothing to spend it on, no magic that I discovered either. Walking through trees rocks and over houses was very abundant here I spent more time walking around, then I did killing the Guardians of the Gems.

Overall: This is the Part 1 of the 2 part series, which I hope the bugs and glitches have been fixed. But if you really like a challenging game, were confusion reigns, this is the dmod for you.

This dmod is very cool, the new graphics are good, a new dink is very cool but some tiles are not so good made, they are not overlapping,

Strengths:
New Dink, new graphics, nice idea but I dont like dmods where you cannot complete the storyline in 1 dmod, you need to download the second dmod too.

Weakness:
That you need 2 dmods too complete it, my tnh will also have 2 or more dmods. This dmod was too short.

Overall:
I liked this cool dmod a lot and played it 2 times.

Nice D-Mod, too bad it's so short.
GRAPHICS 7,7: A NEW DINK! Looks real neat. Nice details, but sometimes you see tiles not connecting.
SOUND 7: Very descent, though nothing special.
GAMEPLAY 6,8: The gems collecting is fun, but I HATE it when I complete a game without completing the storyline, (so there will be a part 2 for sure).
LASTING APPEAL 6: Kinda short, though there are some secrets, the game should've been longer if you ask me.

If I did remember correctly, this was the first dmod I played after I beated Seth in the original game.

Quite amusing introduction and therefore you got a cool new Dink. Story is OK, but stopped quite unexpected. Although I knew there was a 9 gems part 2, I thought I have to find 18 gems for both dmods. Silly me. BTW, where is the final series, Jveenhof?

One of the biggest problems is that you can walk off on the edge of the doors in several houses and might mess up the storyline if you did not find a way back. At that time, I did not know anything about making a dmod. In a pure player's point of view, it was kind of frustrating and confused.

Since I did not play any other dmod at that time, my first impression about the dmod came up with the comparison with the original Dink. I was a little disappointed, but in fact, this is one nice little mod with some fun and lots of treasures.
