Is your computer getting old?
Recently on November 1st NeverWinter Nights 2 was released and I came to know that my dear old GeForce Fx5200 won't be able to run it. I had just bought this computer last year with 512mb ram and 3Ghz Non HT Intel Pentium 4 Processor. But now it seems this computer is quite outdated and I am not willing to invest money on buying a new graphics card and motherboard until spring next year.
How many of you think that your computer is getting old and outdated?

Mine is but that's as expected.. this computer was new when UT2004 was released and I'm planning to upgrade next year or so
I just upgraded from low-end to mid-end. My specs now:
Intel Duo 2 Core E6300 @ 1.87 GHz
1,5 GB RAM
ASUS Geforce 7600 GT
It runs pretty awesome, I can even run Oblivion on 1024x786 with everything on max. And duo core rawks!

Like I said elsewhere, my computer somtimes has trouble playing solitare. Well no, It's not really that bad, but it comes up with seven errors on bootup, crashes when I try to open images (Because it only recognizes .gif images, and MSPaint doesn't work either.), and overall sucks. It is rather old, running win98 (My favorite operating sytem), so yes, my computer is becoming ancient. Anybody know what thing you plug into the CD's sound port (on the back, beside the data port), can't play any music from CD's untill i figure it out.
You don't need to plug anything there with WinAmp5
Winamp3 needs a special audiocable between sound card and CDROM

Wow... I'd find a way to backup your files and someone technically proficient to reformat that sucker, reinstall windows, and get it running good again.
I wouldn't necessarily call mine high-end, but I'm proud of it:
Athlon 64 3500+ (this I hope to upgrade soon)
2 GB RAM
Two 256 MB GeForce 6800s
Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
1 SATA 300 GB hard drive, 1 EIDE 200 GB hard drive
600 watt power supply
A very spiffy card reader/floppy disk drive device
A very spiffy Plextor drive that reads and writes CDs and DVDs very well that I don't remember any of the specs for
more fans and blue lights than you can shake a stick at
Spent $1725 on it.

Don't you know that you can re-install win98 w/o reformatting? Sure, it fubars *everything*, but you can.
Bah.I've had my computer since 1998.I'm the one who needs
to upgrade.*pout* Maybe I'll win one somewhere...suggestions are
welcome.

3200 GHZ ?????
While buying a new graphics card should I go for an X1600 or GeForce 7800GT?

It's overclocked.
It depends on your budget. The 7800GT is obviously a better card, but it'll cost you more. 7800GT is a mid/high-end with which you can play all modern games maxed out while maintaining a decent framerate (if the rest of your computer is on par with the card). The X1600 can't handle the newest games, but it's more wallet-friendly. What's your budget?
Well... yeah, that's why I didn't even bother mentioning it.
Specs:
2.4GHz Pentium 4 Processor
254MBs Ram (2mbs burned off in the 5 years I had this comp lol)
128MBs ATI Radeon 9500PRO/9700
Extreme low-end compared to today's computers but fascinatingly, I can run top end games like Half-Life 2 and all its mods with medium-high graphic settings, also with HDR (High Dynamic Ranging) on max. I've been able to run F.E.A.R. with medium settings (the system requirements to run FEAR is like 1gb ram, 256mb video card, ect). I can also run Call of Duty 2 on maximum settings with a DX7 rendering option with 90FPS straight and minimun loading times. Pretty impressive for a 6 year old computer. Bought on sale for 800$ at the time (2001). Probably not going to buy another computer until I get out of HS.

That's not extreme low-end. 500Mhz with 64 MB RAM and lower can be considered extreme low-end.
"254MBs Ram (2mbs burned off in the 5 years I had this comp lol)"
lol, that's not even possible. It's probably reserved in your BIOS as extra video memory.

Well Half Life 2 isn't the most recent of games. Its quite old now. My pc can run it quite well on high settings but the problem comes starts in games like Caesar 4 or NWN2 which need quite recent technology.
Yeah, the most low-end are the computers are those with something like 500MHZ with 64 mb ram, 8 GB Hard Disk space and an 8am or 4mb 3D accelerator card.
People still use pc's with 3kb ram and a 1MHZ processor!

Ok, maybe I exaggerated a little bit about the being extreme-low end but it just seems the majority of people who own computers are at least 2 times of what I got.
Pah. Just until a little while ago, I was going 400Mhz via 32MB RAM.
Have you ever seen a computer crash due to the fact that it couldn't handle the incoming download?
