I'm sure most old timers remember Ted Shutes, or have at least seen his name around the development section of The Dink Network. His most notable contribution to the community (so far) was his extensive upgrades to the DinkC Reference. That document is superb, containing everything everyone knew about DinkC until the recent changes in v1.08.

Ted is dying from cancer. He is in constant pain and cannot focus on anything for more than a few minutes at a time

Wow, that is very sad. I have never spoke to him or anything but his work in the Dink Reference is probably my favorite thing to come off this site other then Dink Smallwood itself...

I hope he knows how much of an insperation his work is to many from those files alone. It didn't just help me with scripting my D-mod but it is probably the primary factor in renewing my love for programing of any kind.

It is also the most helpful and easiest to understand text on any sort of programing I have come accross to me. I can program in many programing languages so that is no small feat.
Edit:
(in the strictest sense probably five or six)
It is not something I thought of on the spot either. I have thought about how much I liked that document before...XD

Another Edit:
If you are in contact with him please tell him how much his work means to me.

Daniel, there are clowns.
Yeah, it really does suck when something bad actually happens to someone you know... even if it was only through his files (which were usually pretty cool... I know they made LoT a lot more playable).

Too bad he couldn't have been hit by automobile... at least then he'd be okay.

Sad news indeed. Ofcourse, I never knew him personally, but you get to know people a bit on small communities like these. I hope his last days will be peaceful, if at all possible...

Ted emailed a few people, though if I'm not mistaken Tyrsis was the only person to actually receive his email. It was then forwarded to redink1.

That's the saddest thing I've heard for a long time.

I feel really sorry for him.

Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.
I never knew him, but I read SimonK's interview with him. I'm really sorry to hear this.

Yeah, it's sad news. I only got to my email this weekend, and just read it.

He has made an enormous contribution to the Dink Community of the years, and his work has helped me out many times in the past. A few of the script devices in PQ come directly from his examples in his revision of the DinkC.txt file.

Thanks again Ted, for all and everything!
