Website Questions
Ok I need a bit of user contribution now, I've put up a temporary page whilst a more content filled website is under construction for Erasi Entertainment (www.erasi.com). Now what I need to know is:
1) Your location
2) Your page load time (First page load, without visiting the site before ie. there are no temporary images etc. stored) If you're running Firefox with FasterFox this is displayed in the lower right hand of your browser, I'm not sure about other browsers but I'm sure they'll tell you somewhere.
3) Your connection speed (ie. 56k / 512k / 1mb etc.)
4) Would having the small content area in a frame make it any faster or be more efficient? Not that I'm too bothered because it's only a temporary page, so don't dig me for having the ambient background groove, it just makes a simple front page much more interesting =)
This is to get a general idea how fast the end website will be to users over the world, and how graphic intensive the website should be. It's on a redbus connection in London, more details about the hosting @ www.alpha-networks.co.uk if you're interested. Bare in mind the Aeris Episodes sub-site is not up yet, and probably wont be until November anyway. Thanks in advance guys and girls.
PS: Can someone teach me how to do links =)

Also: I think connection speeds may be VERY helpful then, if you're getting faster than me from a UK server Have updated original post..

You should know some HTML when you're doing a website, ey?
Erasi Entertainment
(a href="http://www.erasi.com")Erase Entertainment(/a)
where ( = < and ) = >

Well some forums have specific tags, I didn't assume TDN was just using basic HTML tags Ie. Some forums would use etc. But thanks
So for my full site launch I can determine how graphically intensive I should make the site, considering as it's going to be mainly Dinkers on it initially until we branch out. By taking in how fast the site loads from different areas and connections I can see how fast the page is being transferred across to the user.
So ehh, who is "us" from the "contact us"? I mean, before I send anything to that address, I'd like to know who I'm sending it to.
Location: California
Approx. load speed: 0.1s.
speed: 11.0 Mbps
A frame may make things easier, but I believe that it really depends on your style of website.

I can see you still haven't gotten the hang of properly putting together a website, eh? Well, I've changed, so I won't bother pestering you too much about it, I have at least ten things to complain about here, but I limit myself to two things... background music and TABLES FOR LAYOUT? *cough* Yes...
I'm with Phoenix. Background music sucks.
And I refuse to use Firefox, so how would I calculate the page load time? You could implement a PHP script on your end.

Stopwatch.
Ditto, I really don't like background music on websites.
Out of interest, what's your browser of choice, Merlin?

My Firefox extension FasterFox reported the page loaded in 0.235 seconds!
When I look at the source I think "this was made with a WYSIWYG editor". I personally don't mind if the site works well though.
And yes... Background music. The one on your site isn't annoying, but that stuff is always distracting.

although its cool to see phoenix is still alive i must disagree and say i think its better to make unconventional and original looking webpage although that means it still has to work and look good and everything just seriously we dont need rules to be artistic anyway my question is WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF THIS WEBSITE
Well, I can't use a stopwatch because humans have a reaction time of about .19 seconds, which increases with age.
My browser of choice is Mozilla Seamonkey. I find it faster than firefox and I like a Netscape interface better than an IE-like one.

Josh: To showcase any of my work gamewise so that the public can enjoy it.. You really are annoying josh I bet your mother hates you
Phoenix: Background music, I agree, but if the site didn't have it then look how boring it would be. After all I have stated it was a TEMPORARY page while I complete the main one, so it's not supposed to be fully wow-look-at-me-im-macho website. I just think it's clean and smart, and the music makes it ever so slightly more interesting. It's not just you dinkers I intend to target it to either.
And what's wrong with tables? They're fast and you cant notice the difference?

If I'm listening to music while I surf the net, music like that on your site, not matter if it's temporary or not, is a HUGE pain in the ass.
As for tables, the reason why you shouldn't use it can't be explained in a whim, and I'm quite certain many of the reasons wouldn't interest you either, so I'm not going to bother, but just for the record the conclusion is that they should only be used for one thing, the thing they were created for: tabular data.

my desktop publishing teacher used to say you need to know the rules before you can break the rules which means now that we know "the rule" we get to break it
Will run out of fuel. The only way you can break that rule is to change the respective origin so as to confuse "up" and "down". For example, outer space. Which way is up? There really isn't one.
there isnt really an "up" and "down" on earth in the sense of which way the planet goes when people associate "north" with "up" does that count?
ok how about this: spin around really really fast until you fall down and are too effing dizzy to know which was is up or down
Youtube is anal. They use Flash version 8 or 9, which is not supported in Linux currently. Thank goodness for Google Video, though.
Some people like anal.
It's Macromedia's fault to not have released an 8+ version of Flash for Linux, not YouTube's.
I think there's an open source alternative Linux Flash player in development out there, too...

I have flash 7 and can watch youtube just fine.
Macromedia is working on flash 9 for linux ATM. It will be released early 2007 (a beta will be released in a couple months).

Well, you can complain all you want about Linux and Firefox and stuff that doesn't even come free on my computer... I don't care. I find errors all the time, the key is just to DEAL WITH THEM. Ohh, though it might be that you are an error virgin because you have Firefox and Linux and such... in which case I feel sorry that you have to realize that computers and their programs are not always, 100% perfect. Kinda destroys the illusion, doesn't it? ME, I have had to work around errors all my life, and know several that can be circumvected. These, well, there are so many errors, so as that I have no clue at all on how I could even begin to help.
Hm, you're right, YouTube works in Flash v7 now. It didn't last month, I'm certain, because then they told me to go and download the latest version of Flash. Perhaps they had enough Linuxers complain to them about it.
Like all the off-topic topics
Let's just say like all topics that go off-topic. Kinda logical, really.
Err, what was the topic again?
EDIT: oh yeah, that site.

dang, the horrors of written conversation...
Since I obviously need to lay out everything so that you can actually understand what I am getting: this thread was beginning to get off-topic , and people were commenting on this, and it was posted that we should get back to talking about the website, and so I joked that I didn't remember which website we were talking about (there was a period in this thread in which we were talking about youtube), when in actuality I do. I answered your questions like you wanted in a previous post, so it should be obvious that I have in fact read the topic and know what website we were talking about, so the only logical explanation is that I am either being sarcastic or you actually think that I am that dense. It is just a satirism of the fact that we had gotten off-topic so much. I just feel bad because you don't see others having to explain each of their posts so that we can understand them, and you don't see orators or comedians having to explain how to interepet what they say, it is left to the intellgence of the listener/reader.
I am rather ashamed that I have so greatly overestimated the wit of others.
And just for your information, so I am not rebuted, this is, in fact a serious post, without a hint of humour.

No offense, but even if your post was not intended to be humorous, it still humored me. You know why? Because his reply to yours was in itself sarcasm, and that this long post of yours to explain yourself is truly unnecessary, because everyone got that you were (at least attempting to be) joking, and that kikki's reply too was a further play on that... so yeah.
I actually gotta back VonZep up on this one... I consider myself one hell of a sarcastic fellow and I saw the sarcasm of VonZep's post. In turn, I saw no sarcasm in Davince's post (more like hellooooo duuuuh). Then I didn't really see any sarcasm in kikki's post (re-reading it, maybe there was a little... but very weak sarcasm in my point of view). Sarcasm is a very hard thing to play off in written word, that's why I tend to avoid using sarcasm anywhere online... especially here.
i tend to avoid claiming i can read anybodys minds and i created the universe and know absolutely everything about everybody everything and every intention
Ahhh, but it feels so good to pretend that you can.... until someone proves you wrong...
But, but... by not using sarcasm over a written medium, you withdraw the possibility of a fun and giving misunderstandment! Who in the whole wide world would ever WANT that?!
uhm lets see lars ulrich and the RIAA probably, the people who invented those "parental advisory" stickers on cds, the people who ban and censor rap cds like "ice cube" the people who walk around as living hernias constantly obsessed with being superior and controlling everything and everyone because the world is not their own personal manuscript that can be manipulated on command but they are only a small insignificant speck of nothing and they cant face the fact that they are tiny and weak and worthless so they try to change everything to feel they mean something and are important because they are status junkie point whore elitist she doges? and people who are allergic
oh... that's true... nevermind.. cancel that last post of mine, it was a case of temporary sanity
