Do you ever wonder how Dink was back in the day, when the game actually required a purchase and was distributed on a CD? Do you wonder how the CD tracks sounded in comparison to the midis included in the freeware release? Wonder no more, Dink believers, for we now have Cocomonkey, redink1, and RTSoft to thank for the free release of the Dink Smallwood CD Audio in MP3 format. Note that this requires the new Dink Smallwood v1.08 Aural+ patch to work in-game.

Thank you, good sir. I moved both the intro and the CD audio to the 'Official' category, forgetting that they were in the 'misc' folder. They should both work correctly now.

Ya know I felt the music for Dink was above average and some of the songs are strongly seared into my memory. To think they were originally not Midi's...I always thought they were.

If the Midis I've been hearing for so long are that good then I'm eagerly wondering how much better they sound in MP3 version. Especially "wanderer" and "9".

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

To play them with Aural+, yes, you have to rename the tracks. Simply rename all of them to "#.mp3" (where # is the track number), except Track 3, which should be renamed to "1003.mp3".

As good as I think it is, I think if patches like these are to work then people should wake up to the more modern scene and download slightly bigger files with mp3 music. This music is exactly the step forward I feel that DMODs need to create a more atmospheric MOD, which I've been trying to do for months with huge .wav files, I'd love to release a full DMOD now with mp3, but apparantly it should be released separately while this completely destroys the goals I tried to follow when making the MOD with the DMOD being very atmospheric and dark. Hopefully someone will still read this comment

Now, see, I actually think adding mp3's is just gonna make
the downloads larger.Do we really need that?

I disagree that releasing the MP3s separately would "destroy the goals" you are attempting to follow. There's no sense in forcing anything on anyone; if they're worried about it, they'll remedy the situation themselves. People can download a separate MP3 pack, install it, and voila. Everything's intact, as you like.

A) Dink is a game from 1997. If you want a "more modern scene", then perhaps you should move on to a more modern game.

B) There are still a lot of people here running on dial-up. A D-Mod filled with MP3s is a hassle for these people.

C) It is not that difficult to find substitute MIDIs.

Daniel, there are clowns.
Speaking of more modern games, when is Seth going to release new info on his latest project he keeps hinting at?

Perhaps you mean Cast Awakening Part 2, given that the previous entry is named Cast Awakening Part 1: Initiation.

And what on Earth is Overlords?

Do you ever look at the previews???...

Overlords is MY D-Mod... and its going to rock. Saying that I ever finish it up... Which will take me getting motivated and perhaps recieving some help on the scripting.

"Do you ever look at the previews???..."

Honestly, I validate them but hardly pay attention to them, as the majority of previews showcase D-Mods that never materialize.

I highly doubt you can find many 'atmospheric' midis... not having a go just saying maybe.. well.. UPGRADE? I'll be doing my MOD with mp3, there's no question about that, but what I'm wondering is if I won't be able to release it just because it has mp3 audio tracks, would sort of be a waste of time then But of course an immense game when downloaded. I can only see the max file size go up to around 20mb zipped anyway, which on a modem only takes around 45 minutes to download, and if the game takes 5 hours to complete.. and you've had the best DMOD experience in your life.. well.. that would be worth it surely?

ETAs FOR 20MB =
56k = 49 minutes 56 seconds
64k = 43 minutes 41 seconds
128k = 21 minutes 51 seconds
512k = 5 minutes 28 seconds

And I'm on 8MB soon upgrading to 24MB

Export the MP3s to MIDIs if you can for the standard version, and release the MP3 pack next to it... Not only for the filesize, but also for the fact that some people won't have Dink Aural.

There's nothing interfering with you releasing it unless you refuse to separate the D-Mod and the MP3s, in which case it will not be posted. Simple as that.

And I hate to be pessimistic, but I honestly doubt you will be providing me with the best D-Mod experience of my life

That's stupid. You make a Dmod not only for the music. I'd even prefer a Dmod with no music over a non-released Dmod because mp3s aren't allowed...
