Dir.ff = black box - .bmp = al right
I've made some new graphics. In .bmp they show up al right in the game, but when using ff.exe they have a black box around them in the game. I used the original ff.exe. Is that one of the flaws of that programme? If I use the one by Redink1, will they look al right? Or is something else wrong?
Don't use the Dir.ff format.

I'm not certain, but it may be because you used a black background. I think there may be some problem with that, try a white background. (If your sprite is partly white, you may be out of luck)

First, dink sometimes has problems with the nice dir.ff format and cause frick up's. Second, people say that they want it for smaller file sizes. That wont happen. Dir.ff doesn't compess AT ALL, it just sticks all the files together in a nice table, how nice. Last, it doesn't protect your files at all. Anyone with a hex editor can crack it in 5 seconds and have all the .bmp's.
I think Bin's problem is that the palette isn't EXACTLY the same as the dink palette and therefore causing some screw up graphics (which is common with dir.ff).

You must use PainShop Pro, or another advanced graphics program, to change black with white in the palette. That might work, but i still don't see why you want to use Dir.ff. It does "nothing".

True, the dir.ff format by itself doesn't compress AT ALL, but a zipped dir.ff file will always be smaller than a zipped collection of the original bmps.
Why? Typical zip compression compresses each file individually, looking for repetitious bytes. With a dir.ff file, it finds much more repetitious bytes, because all of the bmps are in the same file.
Also, using a hex-editor to extract bmps is a complete pain... I know I could do it, but I've never been tempted because it simply isn't worth the effort.

Heh, there are only 3 new graphics, and those will be in .bmp. (Because dir.ff makes them with a black box) The others are just modified old ones, just colour change, so no need to tire you out with extra downloading time for those.
Unless of course YOU want them.
