Should I help my classmates?

Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.
This is a big dilemma for me. I give them my homework to copy, I even help them on some test papers. Every time they have a problem, they come to me: "cypry, can u please do this for me? I know you can. I know you won't let me down this time." One of the reason I like the dink community is because people don't ask me all the time to do thinks for them.
Friday, a girl asked me to do some two pascal programs for the computer class. I did this before for her, but this time I said I won't do it, because I'd rather play computer games than make programs for others. Some other classmates asked me for the same programs. It would take me more than an hour to do them.
What would you do if you were me? Would you help them or not?

Can't they do anything on their own? It's cool to help someone now and then, but the situation now is: they know you'll do it, so they think "why do it myself?".

Just say they can do it themselves, and if they really need your help, help them, but don't just do their entire assignment for them.

Point is that you should refuse to do work for someone else one day or another. If you keep on going people will ask you to do more and more for them. And they will take it for granted, and won't be thankful for something you worked hard at.

So helping people out once or twice is fine, but don't make it a habit.

NO. (If I had the power of font size that NO would be at least 100px) If it's a cute chick, you can help her make her own homework, but never do anyone's homework for them.

And I mean never, they might start she doging about how you did someone else's homework but refuse to make their homework. Just stop making other people's homework for good. If they have a truely good reason they can't do the homework themselves, teachers will understand and allow them to make their homework later.

Yeah, you're right. I won't help them this time.

In my class there is a special siyuations. Although it's the third year we study Pascal, half of my classmates aren't able to do a simple program, like reading two numbers and writing their sum on the screen.

SmarterChild: OK. What do you want to do?
Cyrilsaugere: I want you to tell me whether cypry should help his classmates.
SmarterChild: Welcome home, Cyrilsaugere.

Here's what you can do:

1 Get info such as movies, weather and sports
2 Visit my library including U.S. geography, a thesaurus and an encyclopedia
3 Have fun with 4-in-a-row, Rate Yourself, reversi and more
4 Use tools like calculator, reminders and Web search
5 Join in - take a poll, create a poll, tell me about a crush and more

Next time you want to see this menu, just type home.

What would you like to do?
Cyrilsaugere: Are you deaf? Let's try again. Should someone I know help his classmates do their homework?

Cyrilsaugere: Should I help my classmates?
SmarterChild: You almost certainly should.
Cyrilsaugere: Are you sure?
SmarterChild: I'm never completely sure about anything in this crazy world.

Well, see, SmarterChild disagrees! It thinks you should help them after all!

Seriously though, I don't think you should do anybody's homework for them. You could help them now and then if you want, and explain a few things they don't understand, but I don't believe fully doing someone's homework is a good idea. In most cases, anyway.

Mmmm, pizza.
He's over-reactive to the word "help", that's obvious.

Why, do you think, are your classmates still not able to do those "simple assignments"?
Because they have never did it by themselves, always letting others (you) do their homework. If they tried these stuff themselves occasionally, they might get the hang of it.

In other words, I'm guilty for not letting them use their brains. In fact, the problem is the following: We're 29, and the computer lab has only 25 computers. The teacher said that we can stay two at the same computer and also give the tests together. So those that don't want to learn, can stay at the same computer with smb. that wants to learn.

You're not "guilty", you're just too nice. It's their own fault they can't do it on their own.

I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to.I guess.
There is always the possiblity of helping people a lot, and helping the stupider people to the point where they don't learn anything. And then when the final happens, they have a little more trouble. It takes planing, and if anyone realizes, you might be a touch demonized, but it is a possibilty.

I figure I have a good 20% chance of a flame war with the unified opposing opinon in the rest of this thread, but I'll post this anyway.

help (verb) = to give assistance to, aid.
So yes. If you can possibly assist them without disadvantaging yourself too much, than yeah, help them. But you're 'helping' them more by letting them learn for themselves.

Now that I'm done with the preaching, lol, they sound like freeloaders to me, so I wouldn't help them at all. But then, that's a bit hypocritical coming from me, when I often ask other dinkers for 'help'.... two-way street perhaps?

By helping I meant give them the answers, or whatever they might need. Ie, try to prevent them from learning whatever they are there for.

Well, it just feels loftier in the long run. You incure debts if you do it right, and you get out standing on top if you pull it off. So what if it's a little evil?
