Longevity.
I've always found it an interesting subject, as to why the partakers of a given community (Veterans and recently initiated alike) decided to stick around to begin with, and moreover invest significant amounts of time into it. It can be quite interesting and amusing to simply just question yourself; "Why am I still here?" or "How significant is the community to me?", etc. Sit down and think it through for a minute or two. You might just surprise yourself.

I stick around because I like the blue backround. It's calming you know.
Plus, it doesn't hurt that it's easier to get recognized in smaller communities.

I've been playing Dink for a number of years, yet have only been an active member of this community for a few months.
IMHO, anyone who sticks around for a while has likely already thought about it for at least a minute or two.
Largely, it is the consistent vacillation between surprise and re-affirmation that keeps me here.
Welcome to the community,

Well! You punched a hole in MY pillbug.

For some of us (myself included), this is the only active place that actually tolerates our presence.

I'm not really a veteran yet, but this is the kind of place where you get familiar with each other and where it gets hard to leave.
If I'd leave right now, there would probably be someone noticing... Not that my posts are very good, but still. I'm part of this community. And I like that.

Why am I still here?
that's a good question have to say, maybe because i have been playing Dink about 2-3 years and Dink is my favorite game all the time AND this is the only website where i can get so many D-Mods

I just like the people. You never know what they'll do next

Isn't this the "Crazy Banana Fetish" Board??

I have nothing better to do. Boohoo.
I'm also eager to see the next generation for the layout, which redink claimed to be working on propably a year ago or so. Also also I'm working on a dmod, which I hope to release one day to get rid of my sub-adequate dmod author status. Also also also there are some pretty nice people here. Also also also also, I enjoy seeing ducks bleed.
Seriously though, why wouldn't I still be here? Why leave a forum after you get to know people in it, just to join another forum? Never made that much sense to me.

I've tried to join a few other forums as close as this one. I never could get past the magical psychological 50 post barrier.
I think that the reason I stay is that I enjoy Dink(C). And that I like the people here, so I'd like to ask it the other way round: Why would I leave?
Yeah, this is a great community. That's why people posts here a lot.
After so much cleaning up after the holidays, I finally have time to answer this longevity topic.
I have seen other forums on RPGs, and I don't like how they treat those who gets stump in one quests or another.
I have a little boy, you see, who plays Dmods too. He's only a few years younger (probably) than the youngest Dinker we have here. Right now, he's enamored with showing his friends the PS2 games. One day, he'll be back to play PC games again, and he'll surely be scouring the Boards for hints and all. I surely won't want him to stumble into any of those vicious forums where they put down kids for asking for hints or something, on top of the foul language which denotes disrespect and lack of tolerance.
This is one of the best game sites for learning. And the people may sometimes be irascible, with a swear word or two once in awhile, a fight and a spark now and then... all part of the excitement of having a multitude of intensely colorful personalities.
what personalities do we have here? ... i'm more of a mom who plays Dink... there's a lawyer here, i think... and an erstwhile vagabond of sorts...a 12-year-old overachiever...a cheerful comic artist plus plus... a skeptic plus plus... do we have a rocket scientist here? There's more...can anyone add to this?

I thought The Fairy Named Bincabbi was great, scratcher!
I liked it so much I wrote a walkthrough for it, some time ago. I can't say whether I would have liked your other dmods, though, as I never downloaded them before they were taken down.
I'll hope they'll be available for download again... someday...
I personally think you should at least re-release The Fairy Named Bincabbi (even if it is still possible to download it from... somewhere...
).

Rocket scientist? Nah, but Chrispy comes close with his knowledge on how to make different explosives.

I guess I want to see what the people I used to know at least sort of well are doing
I lost Dink and all of my unfinished d-mods when I changed my PC (I could've sworn I moved them to the new one, but seems like I didn't) so as far as playing goes, there's really no reason to stay..
Nostalgy, probably. I don't really post, but I do read the stuff you scribble around

The Fairy Named Bincabbi? dang must of been and gone when I wasnt looking here.. Does anyone have it so I can have it in my lost dmod collection
I shall track all of the lost dmods down! *Minacale Laugh
"Why am I still here?" - Hmmm, I've promised to finish Necromancer, and habit.
I don't participate in any other forums really - occasionally I'll use the Blender forum and the RTSoft forum, but that's about it.
Dink has been the impetus for me to learn 3D graphics, scripting languages (via DinkC) and most recently trying to use C/C++.
I don't play many other games any more - no other RPG, occassionally I'll go and fire up Civ II and Civ III - haven't bothered with Civ IV yet... hmmm, I'm rambling again as I wait for a work call.

Heh, yeah, the fairy named Bincabbi is still available for download somewhere... but it's a secret.
I doubt you'll have too much luck finding any of my other dmods, I don't have them anyway. I fused the fairy namd Bincabbi and another dmod with the current project I'm working on, I might release a bugless version of "the spy number 13" if I still have it on some diskette, (with proper grammar? Maybe... Though sucky grammar is cute) but my other dmods are propably forever lost. (Unless someone has them and emails me)
Good luck finding things like the Dink forever trilogy, I liked that a lot, even though it's considered pretty sucky.

I still have 'the dungeon' on my HD.
Oh, and I also believe I still have 'the fairy named bincabbi' as well...
