I've updated Cast Awakening Part 1: Initiation to v1.0.2. 10 months ago, this Ducklord fellow e-mailed me about 4 fairly serious bugs. At the time, I was fairly entrenched in school work, and I didn't see anything wrong when I first looked through my source files. Thankfully, he didn't stop, and just recently brought the errors to my attention again. What a guy!

I've also used this release so Initiation will work properly with Dink Smallwood v1.08. Sadly, this means that it will not work with v1.07 or earlier, so you might want to hold off trying it for a while.

That makes nine files this month now. When my two are ready we'll have at least 11! We'd need just one more to make a dozen! And that's compared to last months one file. This seems like a lot of files even for this time of year. I don't remember there being so many files in such a sort time last December.

ADDED: This has galvanised me into trying this dmod. I don't really play dmods much since I don't usually bother to download them, what with having dial up. But now that I have a doenload manager I'll probably get around to trying more of the larger files on the network now.

Download managers are a nice thing, indeed. I swear by GetRight.

And Initiation is pretty good, I'd suggest trying it out as soon as you can

I tried GetRight for a year and thought it was good... But I noticed it tried to download some links as zips, while they actually were webpages... Mainly the links with the name "DOWNLOAD" in it.

Now I'm using Mozilla FireFox, and it already optimizes downloads a bit.

Nice. The game has finally been updated.
May I ask, what was changed that it suddenly needs Dink 1.08? Some date easter eggs or seomthing?

The Blackjack and Slot Machines would not work in v1.08. I used a very weird script hack in order to pass variables between procedures, which utilized the scripts-sharing-variables-annoyingly bug. I fixed that bug in v1.08, so I had to fix my scripts to use the new argument passing technique I added to v1.08.

And while I was at it, I decided to use loopmidi(); instead of my spawned-midi-script to loop midis. The game should run less choppier now.

I was using GetRight, but then I started having problems with it in the form of major bugs, so I started using FreshDownload, which actually doenloads files faster for me.

Well GetRight is actually faster at downloading things than Firefox and you're the first I've heard of with that particular problem with GetRight.

GetRight is poorly designed, as it looks at an url to decide whether a file should be downloaded instead of the MIME type. So if you have an URL like "www.files.fake/download.cgi?dink.exe", which is a web site with links to the actual dink.exe, GetRight will think "Hey, that URL ends with an .exe, let's download it!" and simply won't work correctly.

That is slightly annoying, indeed, but usually isn't a problem for me.. I stumble across it maybe once every other week or so. GetRight's the only somewhat decent download resumer I can find that isn't riddled with spyware... so..

Try FreshDownload. It doesn't have any of GetRight's bugs, downloads slightly faster and is free of spyware and adware. It is better than GetRight I believe. If you register it for free it even downloads slightly faster. Just goto http://www.freshdevices.com
