Wow. They gave my dad bad medicine after his heart-attack, so he stopped taking it and he's still alright now.

The only thing beneficial that mind-altering drugs did for me was allow me to compose half a song... and that was after several days of substantial overdoses.

I've taken anti-depressants for many years now and, believe me, I am much better than I was before.

EDIT: It did take several years of taking different kinds before I found the one that worked best for me though.

Pills usually have a lot of side-effects that the doctors won't tell you about. In my opinion, only the most extreme cases should bother with them.

That and the fact that most people develop a level of tolerance to anti-depressants after around 3 to 6 months requiring the dosage to upped or the drug to be changed.

As a means of saving lives and improving lifestyle they can be effective in the short term more than the long term. Long term treatment usually involves therapy of some sort... getting to the root of the problem.

I've contemplated asking about medication for ADD (or ADD-like problems anyway, I haven't officially been declared as such)... but I've held out on it, for whatever reason.

I think it all really depends on the situation. There are a lot of doctors out there who will prescribe anything for the smallest symptom, but there are also cases where the medicine may genuinely be useful. Sadly, it's up to us to figure out who is the charlatan, which can be no easy task in the realm of medicine.

is it something involved in taking people to where they're almost dead, giving them a couple months to recover, and then doing it over and over again...i've heard of some guy recovering like this, some famous biker, i think his last name was Armstrong...

I think he might mean therapeutic cloning. You could get stem cells out of embryos. And treat people with them. But cloning is forbidden in the US.

Hey Joshriot I once saw a program saying those sea turtles can temporarily swim at 35-40 mph. Thats fast.

Chrispy that is hilarious. Someone quote him saying "Chrispy: Slowest Person in Existence".
