Contest: Weird D-Mods Available!
The Weird D-Mod contest deadline ended about 5 hours ago, and thankfully we got just barely enough entries to make it a contest. So what might those entries be? Well, in order of their arrival into my Inbox...
Triangle Mover: Paul Pliska's entry, and a dang inventive one at that. Basically, you use the mouse to move triangles around so different colored balls will end up at the different colored end points. Speaking of balls...
Progeny: Simon Klaebe's entry, which can be best described as a Space Invaders clone with, well, an interesting choice in theme. Maybe a XXX Invaders clone would be a better way to describe it. You control Dink as he uses his 'spell' shooting... uh... spinning things falling from the sky. And speaking of things...
Dream Weaver: Silent Knight: Illusivefing's entry, where Dink has some very odd dream sequences and flashbacks while wandering about. He also reads some dang weird books.
Well, that's it, the Dink Network staff will play through them and vote on them, and decide what the prizes will be. For now, play through them and cheer for your favorite.

WooHoo, the pig's going on the back burner!

Woohoo I must say Paul's and Simon's entries are very cool. I didn't check Illusive's yet, the zip I downloaded was corrupt, so I'll download it again.
I find it interesting that illusivefing has 3 Thumbs.db files in his zip file... Here's a yay for platform-specific useless files!
Oh, uhm... Paul's profile name is Paul, not Manauser
EDIT: Ah, I see it's fixed now. You can ignore this post if you wish.

strange. the db files are nowhere to be found in my folder, and i created the zip just last night after deleting the previous zip file i had of it. the zip works just fine with me, i apologize for any trouble that anyone has had with it
5 hours ago? that means my entry came in about...heh...2 hours late. xD
Triangle mover is fudgeing briliant, a game only Paul could make. dang
Progeny is just... wrong. but somewhat fun for 10 minutes
Dream Weaver seems to be pretty cool, though so far I can't say it's really a 'weird' dmod

If only the deadline would've been extended to the 15th...
I've been playing Dreamweaver and it looks pretty cool. But I must say it really seems more like a normal d-mod and not anything weird. We were actually looking for "Weird" game mechanics, like Paul and Simon's entries.
Question for Simon:
If Dink's dick can grow one inch every level, how long can it be? And more importantly, how long of one does he start with?

I got up to 12 inches after finishing Level 5.
I believe it starts at 1.

Of course they're nowhere to be found in your folder: they're hidden. Also, they don't cause trouble with the zipfile, they just make it larger than it needs to be. That's why one should check the zipfile before sending it to The Dink Network. If you remove many Thumbs.db files, it saves size.

Hey, thanks for the compliments on Triangle Mover. I'm just downloading the other entries myself.
Fun (?) Triangle Mover fact: I was going to call it Light Ball or something like that, but shortly after starting on it, when all you could go was move a triangle around, I showed it to someone and jokingly refered to it as Triangle Mover. But for some reason I kept calling it that. A "weird" d-mod needs a weird name I guess.

yeah. i guess so. i just thought it'd be a neat idea, and most of the things that were supposed to be "weird" about it i ended up not having enough time to implement. but, if nothing else, then it's just a third entry submitted so that either paul or simon can win the contest. :\
How long is a piece of string? As long as you can make it.
It does start at one. But I was working on the assumption that 12 would be kinda hard to reach (pardon the pun)

i reckon when your tweater is that big and you get a boner you would pass out from lack of blood to your brain. i feel woozy.
for TM i get:
error [D:\triangle.zip]: start of central directory not found;Zip file corrupt. Possible cause: file transfer error
downloaded from fileplanet twice with same message

here is a log or something:

Paul
Did you get that from the imgoingtobed server? That seems to work when I do it.
You can just try downloading it again, or try this:
http://home.earthlink.net/~manauser/programs/23H4kr0s/Triangle04.zip
The file name is diferent, but it's really the same version.
If that doesn't work either, maybe it's zipped funny or something, I did use an uncommon program (7-Zip). I can try zipping it with winzip instead, since that's what most people use.

It appears my auto-mirroring script isn't exactly working correctly with FilePlanet, hence the problems. I'll re-upload the files in a sec.
I actually really like all entries this time around. This is going to be hard...
And triangle mover is SO dang hard!

Congratulations Paul!
Your game is truely a new one. Drove me insane with the arcade popping sounds and the hardness of the puzzles. My God, to think there are 30 levels or something... I didn't get past level 9. Can't think of how else to arrange the puzzles, and those arcade game sounds I can only take so long.
But the sheer brilliance in programming and execution. I'm, as with all your mods, very impressed.
Just one suggestion, put a QUIT button on the screen or status bar, as if you force quit in ver 1.07 the music just keeps on playing. (Which it does on my machine)
Oh... and if someone can post screen grabs of the correct solutions for each level... I, and I'm sure a few others will be eternally greatful. Either the timing varies between computers or I'm losing my left brain - probably the latter.

SimonK: There is a quit button. Its near the lower-left corner of the screen.
On Triangle Mover Difficulty: By far the most difficult level is Level 9. I beat it by sure chance, my balls bounced around long enough and didn't even make it to the exit, but I won.

to beat that music-keeps-playing nonsense use alt-q. works every time.
SimonK: Thanks! And like redink1 said, there is a quit button, but maybe I shouldn't have made it dark gray.
Hmm... I've finished this game, but you can't continue from level 30, so you'll have to play 29 again. That's weird.
Oh, right, it was supposed to be a weird DMod contest.
I might print-screen the solutions... but that'd only spoil the fun

Bah. My plan for the truly lazy was to go into DinkEdit and move every piece, so you don't even have to do *anything* and you'll automatically win. That'd rock.
That restarting level 29 thing is a bug. The code dealing with winning was one of the last things I added. I must have added the bug too. I'll try and track it down, I seem to recall that part was confusing.
Edit to Add:
Found it, near the end of Next.c,
if (&player_map < &NUMLEVS)
should be
if (&player_map <= &NUMLEVS)
(In case anyone want to fix it themselves for now.
