Gives Merlin a look. You'd be surprised at what we have in Canada, including SMART people

No, the global megacorporation that is McDonalds is only in the U.S., duh!

Why is it that a smart person never says such a thing?

"Wonders what Merlin is implying?"...
"Thinking about burying Striker head down in the deep snow"...
Hopes Redink is going to change THAT banner ontop, asap!!
Wishes the *Americans* would wise up and learn the metric system, as they are so far behind..

How about learning the whole SI system, and also the Celsius temperature measurement? Canada was smart enough to do so..
I agree with Kat, in other words.

Celsius? C'mon... You know Kelvin's the way to go
And about SI, I totally agree

I don't know what that means, but her troll() function does seem to be caught in an endless loop. I believe it's in need of some serious debugging.
Oyh, dude, Kelvin is nice when you have to deal with physics, but that scale doesn't do much for you in everyday situations. (Yes, I noticed your - )
I vote for celsius. It's based on our most important resource at 101,3 kPa at 273 K (for you interested in the technical background of it... ) - WATER!

i vote for who cares
well im intoxicated - this ones in metrics - come drink a decaliter with me

Celsius temperatures may be easier to calculate and such with science, but I prefer fahrenheit for a couple of reasons(besides being american and all). It seems there is more variation and less approximation with F. There are more degrees between boiling and freezing point on Fahrenheit. I guess I just don't think we should get rid of old systems. I don't think everyone in the world should all speak the same language because there would be no variety, and I think the same about measuring systems. Or something like that, I think I'm sky high on reefer again. No one is going to defend the american systems on this board anyway.
That's 273.15 Kelvin. Also 101.3 kPa is the same as 1 atm or 760 mm Hg.
I have nothing againnst the metric system other than the teachers telling me to mix two liters of something and me going quote "wha"..not that i know the customary system that well either...so pretty much i am hopeless in this world

It's been predicted that within a couple of hundred years, the only languages left will be English, German, French, Spanish and Chinese. Why? When homo sapiens "began", they all spoke the same language. Then they went their seperate ways, needing new words for new things, but had no chance of telling these to their "old friends", so new languages formed. Since there was almost no communication back then, languages continued to grow different. But now, people are communicating across borders again, quickly and often. Languages borrow words from each other all the time now, and that's not gonna end.
Of course, this is just the predicted course, but to me it sounds likely. Just like separation meant new languages, I think the current reunion of people will mean that old languages will die, and only the major ones will survive.
Anyway, to the main point of what we were talking of - I don't understand what you mean with "more variation and less approximation with F". Do you suggest that C is inaccurate?

Yes, Merlin, if you feel a need to be that accurate. It's just that .15 K from or to doesn't make such a big difference anyway.

Within a couple of hundred years? Sounds a bit fast...
Languages like "Saame" of course, will and shall perish even sooner.

What is Fahrenheit based on anyway? I've seen I don't need it for anything, and haven't bothered to find out.
I'm not saying C is inaccurate, there is simply more space between two of the same temperatures on Fahrenheit. If there are more degrees between the same temperature, doesn't it make sense that there will be less dealing with decimals and fractions?
i like SI system
and celcius scale.
and i think that F is based on one cold winter in scotlend and fahrengate took the lowest temperature and made it 0`....
...if i remember corectly
Fahrenheit is based on water. The temperature difference between the melting and boiling points of water is divided in 180 degrees.
Celsius is based on water too, but on other conditions of water:
0 F is the lowest temperature that one guy called Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit could get with a salt-ice-mixture. He then indeed divided the difference between the melting and boiling points of water in 180 degrees.
Body temperature = 37 C = 100 F (almost)
-40 C = -40 F

Actually, Simeon, that's not correct. Fahrenheit is based on bodily temperatures. Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit based zero on the temperature obtained from mixing equal parts water, ice, and salt. The 100 degree mark was set to the natural human body temperature. It was later discovered that 100 was a bit too hot, so it was modified into 98.6.
"It was later discovered that 100 was a bit too hot, so it was modified into 98.6."
And then... why exactly to 98.6? Yes, now I wanna know everything
And then... why exactly to 98.6? Yes, now I wanna know everything
Yeah merlin, the temperature is indeed 98.6 instead of 100. But still, when I mean Pi, I say 3.1415 instead of the millions of digits
Oooh! This thread almost got me interested of the history of the Fahrenheit scale!
Yeah, it's way off-topic, but who cares? Certainly, I do not
Celsius is better. I don't think any reason is needed. Not that I could come up with any better points than anyone has already made... but still.
Ditto has two t's. Sorry to be so pedantic, but I'm a completely anal fellow like that. And I'm British.
Actually, looking at your amount of posts lately, I believe you have a huge urge to post here. Even if it's random, such as this. Or well, not random, but it sure wasn't necessary.
Are all Brits anal? Is that why you have that cork up your rear orifice?
Indeed, a huge urge to post has overtaken me. Oh well, I've missed the network while I haven't been able to check it out.
And not all Brits are anal. Just me.
And not all Brits are anal. Just me.
I for example, am not anal. I am from a city where it's bad to be anal, and a city with a class football team that owns the Second Division (Ave it Sabre)
There is a reason Plymouth is at the arse-end of the country Jamie.
And they don't quite "own" it yet, though they are doing a bit better than I would have thought!
