The Dink Network

This DMOD loads just fine, but when it opens up with Dink on screen with the girl walking around, Dink can't punch, talk or anything. Ctrl, Space, Shift and Esc are all disabled. I walk to the first screen to the right where there is a save bot. It is not hard - I just walk right thru it and can't save. I have downloaded the DMOD twice now. I'd like to play this one. Anyone have any ideas? BTW, I am using WIN XP and version 1.07 of Dink. TIA!

Hmm, do other D-Mods and such work correctly? There really isn't any way to deactivate space from within a D-Mod, so I'm a bit stumped.

It's strange. None of the DMODS are working right - even one I'm in the process of developing. I uninstalled Dink and redownloaded it and the 1.07 patch, but it is still doing this. Any ideas?

Hmm, have you tried restarting your computer, or checking to see if any new programs are open that weren't before?

A) Has Dink worked on the same computer with the same Operating System before?

B) Have you installed a program only to have Dink suddenly stop working?

C) Do you have the latest DirectX?

D) Do you have a system restore that can help you?

E) Do you use a USB keyboard?

F) Do you have the latest system drivers?

G) Have you recently hacked the registry?

What is Linux? A different operating system? Ya'll have talked about it before and I wonder what it does.

Edit: Oh and Merlin, Dink doesn't use the registry at all - you'll find DinkFrontEnd and WinDinkEdit but not Dink(Edit). And references from other programs to (any directory in) the /Dink Smallwood directory.

Well, that's weird. I found about 2 Dink references in my registry when I went through and cleaned it.

Nearly all DMODS work perfectly, including this one under Windows 98, SE, ME, XP, XP SP1. Only FIAT needs deleting from the interface if you want to play the game from scratch.
You only need to save all your data files, including bookmarks (favorites), and email if you wish, then reinstall the operating system (OS), and restore your data files (from all apps), and reinstall the programs you use. You have a corrupted OS. After reinstalling, you will likely have no problems as you are describing. I always install a second hard drive in any system I build for myself or my customers, so I can save ghost images to the second drive, for a 5 minute perfect restoration of the system. The first thing you need to do is right click on my computer, go to properties, then hardware or device manager. Identify and write down each hardware device (display adapter, modem, sound card, ect) and download and save the approrpriate drivers for your OS to a floppy or CD, so you can restore your OS to perfect condition. If you have a propritary system (IBM, HP, Compaq, Gateway, and others), you can restore your system to it's original configuration using the recovery CDs they provide, plus the data backups described above. Know this sounds complex, but once you've done it once or twice, you'll always have the ability to have a perfectly operating compuer only a few minutes away without any OS knowledge.

Yes Linux is an Operating System (OS), just like DOS or Windows 95 thru XP. It is a simplification and an extension of the UNIX operating system that emerged before DOS existed. It is a simple, non propritary, and very powerfull. The beauty of Linux is that when properly configured, it is much faster than Windows, and will operate with speed on even 486 computers. Boot times with Linux are two to three times faster than any version of Windows, and lockups are virtually non-existant. If you install a second hard drive in your system, then install a version of Linux (I like Red Hat), you will be converted. Much tighter code (less overhead) than Windows. Requires more hand holding than Windows for installation, but once you get the right drivers installed, it will blow you away. But then, I'm a speed and stability freak.

I didn't know that there was a Dink Smallwood version for Linux? Is it new or just as old as the windows version?

I don't know why it would be my OS (XP Pro). Nothing else is affected. All my games and other apps work just fine. I launched a DMOD one day and the commands just weren't there. If I hit the 'm' key, Dink says he doesn't have a map yet and the 'p' key makes the pillbug sounds. It is just the 'ctrl', 'shift', 'enter' and 'esc' keys that don't work.

This will be of no help whatsoever but my OS (XP Pro, the one that I'm grudgingly forced to use) works fine with Dink.

It's strange, I haven't made any script for any key at all, so I have no idea why the dmod doesn't work....

I have discovered that those keys don't work on any DMOD or the original game. I uninstalled the 1.07 patch and deleted the dink directory. I then reinstalled everything and the problem persists. Why?
