Coming back to Dink after a year or two, I am still struck by its massive potential.
For instance, when I installed it on my new comp two days ago, I "discovered" a tactic I had not seen before: If you use acid rain on a monster, and then circle the little rainstorm, the monster will chase you instead of escaping the rain (try this yourself, you'll see what I mean).
Most of you probably knew about this trick anyways, but I was thinking more generally about how to incorporate physical tactics into dink.
Some ideas:
1. If monsters try encircle, flank, or even just gangbang Dink (like Diablo 2?), it would add tactical depth.
2. If long range monsters like Dragons ran away... life could get very hard for dink.
3. Thief 2 is probably the best tactical shooter I've seen. It is quite possible to emulate some of the tactical themes into a DMOD (i.e. arrows which distract enemies, monsters with weak points)
But the real reason I posted this was to have others give their ideas and then steal their ideas without mercy
, so, how else could you incorporate tactics into a DMOD?

Hey, welcome back!
Dink source is out now, I'm hoping they add a reverse follow. That would help one of your ideas. For now I'm working on high res graphics

I've developed a way to certain enemies can 'see' Dink. If Dink is spotted, then all of the enemies on the screen are notified, and the screen becomes screenlocked.
With any luck, an implementation of this will be released this month or next.
Oh, and as an aside for the arrows-do-the-distracting, I made something vaguely similar a month ago, but not with arrows. Its rather cool.

LT has a small scene in which line-of-sight is incorperated, but unfortunately, the map at that particualr spot has been designed so that nothing can "block" the sight of the enemy, because I couldn't detect if there were hardness anywhere. Still pretty dang cool though, even though it takes a little processing power to make it work right.

Anyhow, I think I may have a tactical "vehicle" to use, namely pillbug summoning.
Consider the possibilities:
1. Healing: summon a hard to kill pillbug, which yields a big red heart when killed.
2. Distraction: summon a pillbug which attracts your opponents.
3. Explosive distraction: summon a pillbug which attracts opponents and explodes upon death.
4. More strategic stuff: i.e., summon a pillbug which, when damaged by a spell allows you to copy that spell(not a very good idea, but one which can be generalized).

Hathor Bedhu has that, its called "Distract Tactic System", made by me
It's still not perfect though :|
