Diablo 1 has been released on gog
Sigh i am happy and both sad , i always thought we would able to get dink smallwood on gog before diablo 1 , both games had almost a impossible chance of getting into gog, The reality has struck , diablo 1 can now be bought digitally legit on gog.
i am hoping to pick it up and play some old school mp on battle net soon.

Honestly the discussion of getting dink on modern platforms has been done to death but its extremely sad to see that games released around its time are getting on modern platforms ....

You can hate me for it all you want, I'm just gonna say it because I know it's true to a degree. Many members don't want Dink on any platforms because that would mean a lot more players, a lot more members of the community, and that would dissipate the small "family" we built over the decades.
I would love to be proven wrong
I would love to be proven wrong
That's a perfectly valid reason why should i hate you for it?
Just thought people would find a problem with it since it's never been said before. People mostly say it's because of Seth.
If the whole community thinks the same then it would be unwise to do something opposing it .
I sure wouldn't mind new members. I think this place is practically dead at the moment.
It would be fun to see Dink on GOG. How many new members that would bring is another question.
Patching Dink for modern platforms really isn't a problem, though. An updated version of FreeDink was uploaded on TDN just two weeks ago, and even an official modern version exists in DinkHD.
EDIT: Unless you mean like a distribution platform, in which Yes.

We could even do a "goodies pack" like many other games have on GOG, we could do some concept art we can get from the archived website. We could also put the soundtrack in. It could be really beautiful.
TDN really needs new members. Thanks to Skurn it's becoming more of a place for him to shitpost.
Also some new map editors for Dink HD to make a full use of that PNG support since none of the existing ones have it.

since when is bluedy's stance on dink on steam/gog "nah"?
i guess since this thread.
i guess since this thread.
I would love to see some new blood who knows maybe we could really get some really creative new dmod makers specially given how popular minecraft was.
Maybe that countdown is really towards something ?

The best app store is the Debian Advanced Package Tool from which we've gained numerous wonderful new members over the last ten years.

My stance is "yah" not "nah"

Nevermind Dink on Steam, how many ducks do I have to sacrifice to get Zoo Tycoon on any digital platform? Let's talk about games that are stuck with only physical releases as the only way to get them legally.
It could be coming in more early than you think , just to put that stab that games that were around dink smallwood are getting re-released , here is one more age of empires 1 definitive edition will be hitting steam soon. Along with DE version of 2 & 3 soon.

Whats more is that ms announced they will put out more of their games on steam , there is already a modern zoo tycoon on steam.

Like my first post in this thread , it kinda makes me sad that everything is coming back better except for our beloved dink which we are holding back due to fears sigh...

I am glad that at-least you tried such an old game. The graphics are gonna be very poor as compared to modern games. So its quite natural that people still like it. I will share it to my friends on Techgara to bring them here.
I'd take post-3dfx games any day than modern ones because they are actually more colourful and provide some originality.
depends on the game, luckily. just, too many games are dark and grey and bland as all duck.
Does it run on a versatile engine like Dink's?
I played Diablo 2, and I thought that it runs on a 3D engine but it's not.
Can't seem to run Diablo 1 on my windows 10, so I won't be able to compare much.

Diablo 1 has issues running directly on windows 10 , you will need some fan made fixes or the gog version which has been patched for modern os
even more simple, don't use windows 10 for anything.
True i personally hate windows 10 for lack of support for older games but curtains are coming down for windows 7 in a couple of few months what to do?
good thing i use virtually nothing thats windows 10 exclusive. windows 10 can go suck a railroad spike
You might be able to get the CD version of Diablo 1 working on Windows 10 with DxWnd or the Strange Bytes Diablo Patch but keep in mind that the latter is made for Win Vista/7 and I have not tested it on Windows 10, DxWnd might be a better bet but even with the provided import config it may need some tweaking.
UPDATE: I've tested the Strange Bytes patch on Windows 10 and it works fine, installation is as simple as dropping a dll in the game folder

Yeah, I remember those good old days, (sarcastic), that I tried to run retro and old games on windows 10 by downloading dll's, drivers, fan-made fixes and patches.
All those efforts just to play old games and old graphics but interesting gameplay. I like the Quake series, I first played Quake 4, then realized that there was Quake 3 arena, Quake 2 and 1. I've downloaded q2 and q3, desperately searched for and downloaded necessary compatibility programs, both work well on windows 10 except for q1.
But for Dink Smallwood, I dont have compatibility problems at all!

Ya could've saved some time by using source ports.
Quake 3 Arena/Team Arena = ioquake3
Quake 2 = Yamagi Quake 2
Quake 1 = quakespasm or vkquake (Latter one uses Vulkan rendering provided your GPU supports it)
Dink Smallwood's FreeDink is also a source port.

Freelancer on literally any digital platform when?
