Smallwood burned her house.

See the coincidence?
Her house burned. By arson.

Ok, I know this was a bad taste joke, but I... couldn't resist.

Her name was mother. Sometimes mom for short, but never ma and certainly never bill jo.

Mrs. Smallwood

<Hmmm> I always thought that perhaps she was an unwed mother and thus would not be Mrs. Smallwood. Certainly the original game did not tell us much about the family or the marriage.

But, if you are assuming that Striker's mention of "Mrs. Smallwood" is part of the Dink canon, then I guess that must be true. However, I can't seem to recall which of Striker's works revealed this truth. Which one was it?

What you say (of the original game) is true, of course. Dink's mom answers Dink's questions about his dad saying, "He was a wonderful farmer and husband." and the word "husband" implies marriage. Still, it seemed odd to me that in Seth's original games, we never learn what happened to the dad, and why he may have left or perhaps never even married the mother of his child. I kept wondering, "Why doesn't Dink's mom tell us more?". I know it is only a silly game, but compared to the greater detail on how a neighbor was abusive towards his family, I could not see why we would not get at least a hint or two of what happened to Dink's dad, if he really was a good dad.

One of the dialogues in the vanilla game actually reveals Dink's father became a farmer after fleeing from Japan after nearly being killed by the Yakuza boss. He flew to Europe to seek Italian mafia's help, but they asked for too much crack in return. Short in supply, he roamed Italy for a year raising a cocaine empire. Until one day, when he was too stressed out, and rented a whore. He fell in love with her and they both fled to Stonebrook where they raised a young Dink. Well, until one day when Dink and his mother were out collecting nutz. The Yakuza boss finally found Dink's father and decapitated him. The trauma was too much for Dink and his brain erased the awful memory.

yep, that's how i remember it. and if i can remember even further...pretty sure it was also revealed in one of the comics that that same yakuza boss was responsible for burning down dink's house. the yakuza later became known as the cast, by the way. very interesting backstory in those comics.

I must admit I don't recall coming across this "wizard hidden in the Icelands in the original game". Still, while interesting, it does not really say much about Dink's dad. It only states that the ancients draw power from Dink's family, presumably including his pop. This says nothing about the kind of man his dad was. But thanks for bringing it to our attention anyway.

Yeah I guess it's not really so much his father as much as his ancestors. It still does tell us a lot about his lineage though, presumably on his father's side.

yeah, it's great. i love how this crucial dialogue about dink and the ancients is completely missable and in a random place. stuff definitely starts making more sense when you talk to that dude and then go to the darklands.

The Psychic Revolution begins...
This can be encountered if you haven't defeated Seth yet.

The fact that some players were not able to encounter that is because the strange machine portal to the darklands is located a few screens nearer to the east, and it seems a safer place due to less enemy presence.

Some players like me would tend to go east after seeing that there are a lot of ridiculously strong giants to the west, especially if you don't have hellfire spell.

But that snow castle wizard dialogue and actions will change AFTER defeating Seth.

The wizard will evade by teleportation when you get near him.
