Re: FreeDink Annoyances
FreeDink seems to be better than v1.08, but there are a few things that are annoying.
1. Alt-F4 does not close the application. Unlike every other application in Windows. I know that it's all open-source and Linuxy whatnot, but it should at least follow the rules of the operating system it's running in.
2. Likewise, if you Alt-Tab out of the window while the mouse cursor is active, it steals the mouse from all other applications.
3. The game continues to play even if it doesn't have focus (when you are able to alt-tab out).
4. On rare occasion, moving with the keyboard results in Dink moving in a direction the player didn't press. I've seen this happen about 3 times over the past week, and could be related to pressing three arrow keys briefly?

1 and 2 are annoyances that I also want to see fixed. I like 3, but there should be an option for it to be able to run FreeDink without focus or not. I dunno about 4 though.
Huh, when I alt-tab out with the mouse active in the game, I don't have problem number 2.
The problem lies in non-maximized windows as FreeDink tries to "steal" the cursor from other application windows if you hover over the FreeDink window.
Also on a more fun note, if you tab out of FreeDink with an active cursor to another window that is smaller and "inside" the FreeDink window... You can't leave with the cursor! You'll have to drag the mouse fast to get out of this FreeDink cursor prison.
You can also move the trapped window outside the boundaries of the FreeDink window and make a bridge for the cursor and escape over it!

1 is already fixed in the latest (still work-in-progress version, I believe) version: http://www.beuc.net/tmp/. 2 as well, as far as I can see, although the minimize/maximize/close window buttons on the top-right don't seem to work, and instead just make the window active.
There are some things that annoys me in FreeDink:
1. No additional 4:3 aspect ratio resolutions. I mean come on, it's 2014, why can't we get the option to set up the resolution into like 1024x768 or 1280x1024.
2. No borderless fullscreen. For those who don't know what it is, basically it's windowed mode but without borders, when a correct resolution is set, it looks like ya playing in fullscreen....except the fact that you don't HAVE to wait for the black screen to disappear and of course you ca switch between programs much faster.
Most of the time a source port of a game is generally a improvement of the original source, allowing you to customize the game even more, add a support to the modern systems and in come cases, add some new scripts that pretty much lets you make any mods interesting, hell, having a OpenGL library on it could make any dmod interesting and with some new editor for that. That would really push the game engine's limit beyond it.

Hi,
FreeDink seems to be better than v1.08
Thanks.

That's working directly in windowed mode but for full-screen that requires some more specific work.
Aside from that Alt+F4 is also used under GNU/Linux so no need for the attitude.
2. Likewise, if you Alt-Tab out of the window while the mouse cursor is active, it steals the mouse from all other applications.

2. No borderless fullscreen.
These are a limitation in SDL1 which should be fixed with the next SDL2-based version
A development version is testable as scratcher mentioned.
4. On rare occasion, moving with the keyboard results in Dink moving in a direction the player didn't press. I've seen this happen about 3 times over the past week, and could be related to pressing three arrow keys briefly?
I never seen this, I can't say.
Cheers!
