This article should enlighten someone like Skurn that DRM is bad and it needs to go away forever.

Instead of just linking to an article, could you perhaps enlighten us with your own opinion as to why you feel this way? I really like having sources that I can check, but when somebody just posts a single line post plus a link I don't feel particularly inclined to read up on a subject.

Also, did we not already have discussions on steam and DRM? I see that the GOG part is new, but having the same argument over and over again isn't really a useful way to spend one's time... I always used to say "An argument doesn't become any stronger if you keep repeating it", but I repeated that so many times that it became kinda weak. Still, I don't think I mentioned it here before?

Hey, Punny, I hope you know I use both and have zero bias towards either seller.

Guess I'm a horrible little monkey for using Steam much more, though. Oops.

Still, why don't you provide us some of your brilliant insight into the topic instead of sending us to videos and articles all the time and simply agreeing with them. Here, I'll give it a go to show you how to present an opinion.

I recently played and completed Risen. It was both about average at times and also downright unpleasant to play. The reasons are because of the combat, which is full of constant parrying, block-ignoring, and tons of sidestepping from your opponents. Obviously, this makes fighting multiple enemies much harder than it should be unless you've got some decent equipment and the enemy isn't too powerful. Another thing I didn't like were the quests. This game didn't have a typical questline. Instead of bringing up your journal and seeing a main quest to play through, you have to pick up various quests from random people in order to finally achieve what you need. For bandits, you need to screw around until you get a bunch of blade pieces. I didn't bother after a while. So I went to Harbour Town and took the Inquisition Path. To do so, I had to screw around for a while until the Commandant of the town wanted to talk to me. Then that basic formula repeats, with frequent branching into doing other tasks, and whatever. I had to enable god mode in the final dungeon too because I had run out of patience.

ArcaniA 4 - Gothic is another game I recently played...not even an hour ago I'd say. The combat is easily superior, being able to string together attacks faster, and enemies don't bullshit around and get free hits on you. The magic comes to you much more quickly and is satisfying to use. Ramirez from Highlander also makes an appearance in this game for some reason. Might not want to click this though. It might give you Gaben Sickness. Or something.

So in conclusion, Risen falls short in the combat department when compared to ArcaniA 4 - Gothic. However, Risen is the more challenging title if you like being cut off from combos...or like enemies ignoring the fact that you're blocking...

There's other points I could bring up, but whatever.

Hey, I didn't just post some piss poor critic's reviews. Sure, I didn't go too into detail, but you didn't go into any detail.

Your lack of faith in the Gaben is disturbing.

I can provide a list of reasons of why GOG is a better choice without even reading the article.

1.No regional pricing (No 60$ = 60 EU that Steam does)
2.FREE BONUSES (GOG offers a lots of em consisting mostly of artbooks, soundtracks, guides etc.
3.Games are cheaper (Compare for example Shadow Warrior 2013 from Steam to GOG)
4.Great promotions ("Get a game now for free and own it forever", while steam sometimes does that there is another thing to mention. GOG makes a huge discount for bundles and each game have their prices cutted from 75% to 90%, 15 randomly chosen games recieve that promo in each hour
5.Curative Early Access (Meaning that if the game won't be updated. It will be removed immediately! Steam does not do that and it causes some people to abuse that system for easy money. See Earth: Year 2066 and WarZ controversies)
6. GOG will provide with a optional client which allows you to crossplay with Steam games. If it was released on GOG as well
7. No copy protection (Even though Steam allows you to play games in Offline one, there is one hook about it. <b.Games must be verified before going Offline mode[/b]
8. Active support (Good luck to get a fricking response from Steam Support which takes like a MONTH or more)
9. Longer sales (The recent Summer Sale was about 3 weeks, while Steam's was 2 weeks.)
10. Better compatibility with modern systems for older games. (Most of the older games on Steam, are not even setted up for playing it on modern systems. Hell, Steam had no choice but to use the GOG version of System Shock 2 in their shop!)

I am disappointed at you, Punisher. I've made more reasons than this article.

Bite me, that i've written these reasons in short.

Your lack of faith in the Gaben is disturbing.

I am actually disappointed in Gabe Newell. Mainly how they damn work in there, it is a pure anarchy, anyone can do whatever they want to and fire people just for no reason. Steam may be great, but it is only in sales. The client is unstable and their Steam Greenlight is just horrible, as when a game gets higher votes, it will be accepted not by a person but by a bot. Oh and did i mention that games STILL use a third-party copy protection? Like i dunno....UBISOFT GAMES?!

Not to mention, before you, Punisher say something about Origin, which i am going to mention it. It gets even better and it is not even a sarcasm.

Now currently the only worst DRM/client is UPlay...Hell, even after the release of Origin, UPlay is even worse than this client. But people were blinded by EA hate so damn much and overlook this piece of poop.

Origin got better in multiple things:
-It runs faster
-It is more responsive
-Game Time (Play the game for a limited time when ya run the game and it will pause when ya stop. Steam hoewver, you are limited to the real time!)
-Better overlay
-It downloads faster (Steam for no appearent reason slowly downloads when it is at 90%)
-It's actually more of a download manager rather than a DRM

I hope they refund the customers as well and give them a game of equal price to when the game was released (sale prices not included, maybe).

Early access is my one complaint next to the servers being inconsistent. Anyone, (Chucklefish, Chucklefish, Facepunch, and Facepunch) are huge offenders of that system. Starbound hasn't been updated in several months, they silence people for having an opinion, they give no shits about key bindings, and they basically do jack shit. Rust is the most empty, boring, broken "survival game" ever made. It was never be truly added on to aside from stupid graphical updates that are completely unneeded, and if you want to find your friends in a server, good ducking luck. Hell, if you do find them, chances are you won't be with them long before you die and have to search all over again. And no, re-spawning the same way seems to not work...and you lose all your items upon death making it pretty much a rogue-like with almost no content at all.

And Xfire sucks. As does Origin.

meh i use steam ,gog, gamersgate, origin, psn, gfwl, uplay and what not , i dont give a damn about drm or other crap things like extras . I will get the game and play it where its cheap and easier to do it . Right now tons of games for steam are sold in super cheap bundles and what not and the steam downloader is miles ahead of gog one all games are updated pretty quick automatically , good community support, cloud saves etc.

For me its all about playing the game rather than hoarding it and keep it forever. screw the drm chat get the game cheap and actually play em instead of limiting yourself with mindless bs.

Good luck downloading a game from a Steam while you are away. Due to the connection speed problem i've mentioned before. Ya see that the game will be downloaded in 4 hours, no problem in there. But once you come back after 4 hours...BAM! 4 more hours to wait!

Obviously something on your end, Goku. I've never seen that happen, and I'm a victim of Comcast, so you'd think I'd have problems with Steam installing games.

There's one annoying thing about Steam and that's the amount of older games that has shown up, they should have their own category instead of appearing on the New Releases section!

And too many games get greenlit. :/

i have had no download issues , just downloaded van helsing that was 20gb despite having a shitty 512kbps connection on steam.

i wish steam had a better quality control team the amount of bad games getting in is terrible i mean a game called taxi got released.

but its also a blessing for dink smallwood to get in easily valve seems to greenlight top 100 voted games every now and then so i hope seth can get it now.

on the other hand the gog downloader has been crap for me , been trying to download witcher 2 there and the download always corrupts at some part hope they improve that downloader its as terrible as the psn downloader if data corrups= redownload whole thing no re-checking, in steam you can recheck the data and it only downloads missing and corrupt parts

Actually, I used the Gog Downloader once and it didn't do anything, so I've been doing manual downloading since.

And yes, it's definitely easy to get games on Steam. Think about this - someone's RPG Maker game got on there, and PewdiePie bait that literally contains his face is in there.

Mmmm, pizza.
Everyone who has been on dialup (and paid attention to the technical lingo). The 'k' in "56k modem" stands for kbps, which is, in this instance, kilobit per second.

ADDITION:
Heck, even ethernet and wifi speeds are measured in some kind of bits per second. These days usually in terms of Mbps (megabit per second) or Gbps (gigabit per second).

Ya magicman is right i would not use the word shitty if it was bytes let me put it in this way 512kbits(512kbps)= 66kb/s(kilo byte) max download speed which means downloading huge games is a pain specially on gog where its either the browser dependent direct download which always fails at some point or the crappy gog downloader which is no better.

ISP give the download speeds in bits to fool the customers 10mbps is not like 10 mega byte but mega bits.

anyways i tweeted the kotaku article to seth , hope he understands people are still playing dink and would be happy with a steam release

Byte is usually denoted with a capital B and bit with a lowercase b, so kB is kilobyte and kb is kilobit. Also, when you see things advertised you can safely assume that it's the lowest value you can imagine still having that abbreviation. 512 kbps sounds faster then 64 kBps after all.

Companies selling harddrives have found all kinds of strange abbreviations that are just a little bit lower in size than a byte. They're using decimal prefixes (multiples of 1000) rather than computer prefixes (multiples of 1024). That's why that 500 GB harddrive never actually gives 500 gigabytes.
