dink2013

Hi I just completed Dink smallwood and I would like to know if someone in the community could recommend 3 good dmods to me. I would like to see better mapping and 2-3 times the gameplay but if not that's OK.
Everybody has their own favorites. If you go to the dmod section in the files tab it'll list off all the uploaded dmods. If you hit the down arrow it'll sort them for the highest ranking. Here is a shortcut. I'm sure you'll find the majority of them enjoyable.
I think Pilgrims Quest, Stone of Balance, isle of Croth, Broken windows, Scourger - should give you a good selection to start the ball rolling
ps I hate numbers
thats why there is more - I averted my eyes while I typed hehehe
Some of the smaller dmods are pretty good too so dont necessarily set your sights on just the biggies

Don't really have 3, but I would recommend Pilgrim's Quest, Stone of Balance, Cloud Castle 1-2, Lyna's Story, and Prophecy of the Ancients.
Pilgrim's quest, Stone Of Balance[everyone might say so as well] and mayham it's a little fun, or if you want to see a complete failure look at the ABC one.
Isle of Croth, Green voice in my head (this one is hard though), Cloud castle 1 & 2.
Prophecy of the Ancients, Stone of Balance & Pilgrim's Quest, Cycles of Evil.
Play them in that order for maximum effect

Playing Prophecy of the Ancients now. This dmod is the s**t
. Love it!!

Indeed. Many people say "pilgrim's quest and stone of balance", but that means you're playing part 2 first and then part 1. It is easily possible. In fact, I played Pilgrim's quest without knowing that it was a sequel, and only when I finished it did I notice that it was the second part in a trilogy. So I decided to play the first part before attempting the third part. When I finished SoB, I was disappointed to find that the third part wasn't ever made. So I'm telling you now to spare you that feeling.
Both with SoB/PQ and Cloud Castle 1&2 (which also is a trilogy without a third part) the second part is better than the first, IMO. SoB is good enough to play anyway. CC1 is short enough to play anyway. In both cases playing the first part is worthwhile because you will know a bit of the world before you start with part 2.
While we're on trilogies, there's another one I would like to suggest: Friends Beyond. Unfortunately there are several bugs in them (so save often). And in FB2, once you go somewhere, you can't always go back (that is intentional). So to see everything, you need to start over several times. In case you go play it, when someone says he gives you an "ice sword", and you don't have it in your inventory afterwards, that's a bug in the engine which makes it almost impossible to finish it (it might be specific to Freedink). Please ask here if you encounter it, I have a workaround for it. Make sure you have a save before you got the sword.
The reason I like FB is that it is a bit hollywood-like, with heavy moral cutscenes at times. If you like that, there's another dmod which you'll like even more: "Eternal Suicide - Chapter 0 - Wasted life" (it's not so heavy, but it's very movie-like). It was meant to be part 0 of a long list, but unfortunately it never got a sequel.

You know, I've heard you say this a couple times, but according to my logs I've only had to fix 1 "game-unfinishable" bug over the past 2 years.
I've been *very* careful about maintaining compatibility.

I am sorry if this is how my comments sounded. AFAIK there are many more bugs specific to regular Dink, which have been fixed in Freedink, than the other way around. I'm very happy with Freedink.
What I meant to say, is that I didn't test this on regular Dink, because I don't have Windows. So if I trace a bug to the Engine, all I know for sure is that it is in Freedink. I usually expect it to be in regular Dink as well.
However, this case is a bit special. It has trouble loading an image. AFAIK the graphical system is entirely replaced in Freedink. So while this could still be present in regular Dink, I'm not as sure about it as usual.
But you are right, I should be more careful with my words. I am convinced Freedink is a lot better than regular Dink; I'll try to make it sound like that in the future. Thanks for telling me.
